| I have two, both suffer from the wandering zero but maybe it's me, waiting for the next kick in the shoulder & teeth! If you get one, buy a slip on recoil pad. |

| Senior Member | I would be leery about ordering it sight unseen. They claim not to be fakes, but I would want to see the proper lightening cuts in the receiver, hollowed out bolt handle, 800 yd rear sight, etc. I found mine at a gunshow and paid 325 for it. Granted, it's not in pristine condition, but it is original. Just my .02

| Maybe see if they can send you some more detailed photos. They're advertised as original and I doubt that they'd risk their reputation on this. ......For that price , they'd better be original . ![]()

| Senior Member | I've got two. First one I bought through Navy Arms without doing any research and ended up with a #4 conversion. My second one got bout year ago, its an original Fazakery 1944. I havn't shot either. I take others experiences like Wunhunglo. I've read somwhere that commercial 303 ammo is not as bad with recoil as the surplus ammo. Got 1938 Moisin that shoots a ball of flame out the barrel and really turns heads at the range. I found out it was fairly accurate once I got to the point of keeping my eyes open when I pulled the trigger. Fired my 98K with 8mm Turkish ammo, and immediatly found out why Germany lost the war. Started loading my own 8mm after that. |

| Senior Member | If you got it a million years ago from sears, ut has to be an original #5 and not a converted #4. My dad bought me my first rifle a #4 Savage in 64 at army surplus store. While in the store I guess you could call it first love, but I eyed and #5 and a SVT 40 Tokarev. I'm an Enfield lover anyway. My C96 Mauser isn't the greatest because ammo availability, but it sure is a great conversation piece and the history they carry is beautiful. |

| well if you do get it there, pay the extra $15 bucks and get a hand picked one. But then that's what I'd do. But then, I also hate buying off the internet. Comes out of your pocket if for any reason it has to go back, which then means you still don't have one and now you have that much less to get one when if and when you find/get another one. And by the way, turn your speakers on and click on any link on the right side of the page at that website livebythegun linked in his first post. If you get a crosshair it should do what I'm talking about. It would be cool if we could somehow get that here when we click on a link. Kind of cool. I like it anyhow.

| I read an article in a gun rag that was talking about the #4 jungle carbine. It said that after several shots that it would lose accuracy due to metal expansion(from heat) at the rear of the reciever where they removed metal to lighten the original #4 rifle. It reported that this would also cause the reciever to crack from fatigue after a while. If allowed to cool between shots, it would regain accuracy. I don't know this for a fact, but that's what I read. I believe it was in "Shotgun News", or maybe "American Rifleman". I will try and find the issue and post it.

| just use mine N05 MKI, as a second, backup. for deer.mfg 7/45 bought 41 years ago. heck it was only 22 years old then, from a poor fellow headed for the Federal Magistrate. guess how much his fine was? $15. Sure mine's original because there was no money in modifying to increase value.... how times have changed. I would just use the big apture peep site, never fear dead on. a 180 gr will kick yo butt. if ya really want to get kicked, shoot a 220 gr. I take it out every few years for a few rounds. Still have Norma ammo from several decades ago. Made the mistake of refinishing the front stock. stopped there. Dont touch it! You might be able to get a more competitive price. but they were going for over $250 just a couple years ago. If it has not been abused the original coatings etc should be uniformly worn, original stock, etc. Be sure to check any magazines you buy, some will not fit, have extra metal piece on magazine retention lug . Dont dryfire, ease the bolt /spring down gently while pulling the trigger. Has a 2 stage trigger. ABove all, BE SURE YOU ARE BUYING 303 AMMO AND NOT ANYTHING ELSE. DOUBLE CHECK I didnt, shot one round, little kick, we got a problem, Houston Guy sold me a box of .30 Savage. Went to take the other 19 back, the dope could see me coming. I was NOT a happy camper. ![]() If looks could kill........ good luck finding what you want. I love mine. |
