| Enfield Stock Question
Hey guys, I recently got a U.S. marked Savage Enfield No.4 Mk.1* That is overall in pretty nice shape and the stock is a nice reddish brown color, and the stock's finish looks nicer than most of the enfields I see, other than the usual knicks and dents. But I want to kind of protect and preserve the finish thats already on it without stripping it off and completely refinishing it because It looks really nice already in my opinion, so If you guys have any suggestions they would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, K.H. |

Try denatured alcohol or mineral spirits to rub it down. You should try it on the underside of a handguard first to make sure it doesn't strip the finish too much. A spray polish (pledge) will clean it up a bit also. If you take too much of the original finish off, I believe it is boiled linseed oil. I cut it with mineral spirits and apply it liberaly then wipe it down and allow it to dry at least over night. I do 3 to 4 coats, rub with scotch-brite between coats.

Thanks, I might give that a try when I have some more free time to do it.

Is there any where that I can get the wood for the top of the barrel. My NO 4 has had the wood stripped off a long time ago.

I would check on Ebay, I see things like that on there from time to time, and I would also check on buymilsurp.com too.
