Shooter's accuracy with either rifle assumed to be about equal, I'd go with the Enfield solely due to the 10 round mag capacity. You've got one minute, right? The K31 has to be re-loaded twice as often, and that re-load time equals time not spent cycling, aiming and firing.

I said it was going to take a while to line all this up. If you don't like waiting go out and do it yourself then I'll have a score to beat.

If it's not snowing on Sunday, (we've got the 600m range booked for a practice day) I'll give my no.5 a blast and see how many I can get down range in a minute & let y'all know how it goes.

Would you say the No. 5 is faster than a No 4 or is it just because the no 5 is your favorite? I have both and am ashamed to say I have never fired either. I tried last week but the range was closed. Darnit!!!

Nope, just my favourite. Lighter with a great big muzzle flash! This No.5 had some of the bottom wood touching the barrel so I've just relieved it a bit so hope it might not wander so much. I'll find out soon.

Slow day yesterday at the range, 23 rounds from my no. 5 in 1 minute with all shots on target (fig. 11) at 200m. Even with a slip-on recoil pad, still got a sore shoulder today!
Target picture at 200m as the camera sees it but not as the shooter's eyes see it! damn foresight just about blocks the picture!!

Wait a minute. Isn't it actually 12 rounds outside of the People's Republic?

Only with the Indian 7.62 models, the .303's were 10 round mags

I know this largely depends on who's behind the gun, but is accuracy about the same for both?

| Your Target :
"The record in the mad minute was set in 1914 at the British School of Musketry by Sgt Instructor Snoxall using a Lee Enfield SMLE. 38 hits inside the 4 ring at 300 yds within the minute. Scores of 34 to 35 were "not uncommon".
Apparently its never been beaten by any bolt action rifle.

My Target is to get them all on target; Accuracy first then speed; don't get enough practice in these days. In the past I've managed the high 20's with all on target. Mind you, the No. 5 makes a fine hand-warmer on a cold frosty morning. Yesterday was a good practice day with zeroing at 200 then various practices at 300 & 500m.
Alan de Enfield, where do you shoot?

I have my own land OK'd by the police (in the UK they have to certify any land as suitable for the calibre you want to use) for 303 & 7.62
I also shoot at a range at Lincoln but its only 75mts (82yds) but I can get up to 500yds on my land.

I shoot at a local (Scottish Highlands) range 25-100m and at two other 600m ranges, one an Army one with ISBR which we hire now & again.
PS I'm well versed in the UK rules/restrictions.

Wunhunglo - Your location appeared to be Africa so I didnt know you'r in Scotland.
No5 nice, noisy and a bit painful after 30 or 40 rounds but takes its turn with my :
No1 Mk3* with PH5A sight
No2 Mk4* (22 calibre)
No4 Mk1* with PH5C sight
Enforcer Clone (wish it was a 'real one')
L42 Clone
What are you using / paying for ammo ?
Can get Kynoch 303 at £12.00/50 and German 7.62 at £6.00/20 at the range. I prefer the Privi 303 at £38.00/100 from the local gunshop as its more accurate and consistent.

Sorry mate, home on leave.
Ammo much the same as you but we have to buy in fairly big batches to cover the shipping costs. Never tried the (new) Kynoch 303, pay about £25/100 for the MEN 7.62 and about the same as you for the Privi 303.

Quick question. Is there a number somewhere on the bolt that proves it matches the receiver?

There should be - its on the rear 'flat' of the bolt handle.

Although the K31 is known to be a "very accurate rifle",
I would not shoot one if you paid me to.
Switzerland is lucky never to have been in an armed conflict.
Probably more Swiss soldiers would have died than their enemies,
if they had used their beloved K31.
