Mad Minute Results: Enfield vs K31

Well you waited long enough so here is the results of my mad minute. The K31 got... well I am still waiting for his results. The Enfield No1 Mk3* got 17 rounds off. I could have gotten 20, but I miscounted and reloaded when there was still 3 rounds left and that took up my time. But I beat an AR-15 who was putting in one round at a time. The AR got 10 off. We were shooting at a target about one and a half feet wide by three feet tall at what we figured to be 300 yards. The AR hit it once and I missed completely. A sad day indeed but there was a 25 mph wind maybe that could be my excuse. Anyway, got any information about using a No1 Mk3* sights? What do the numbers mean? What should it be set at for 300 yard shots? Anything up to 50 yards is dead in one hit, but at greater distances I don't know where the bullet goes or what the sights should be at.

So some practise needed; not quite the 38 hits inside the 4 ring at 300 yds within the minute, yet??

Sights are almost certainly 200 to 2000 yards, so for 300 yards it should be set to the second line on the right, the one between the 2 & the 4.

Yet is the key word. This is my fourth time shooting the gun and the second time actually aiming at a target. If I try again I will post those results as well. I'll also get on my friends back to do his mad minute with the K31. Patience is the key.

I just need to find a magazine for my No.I mkIII, a Bubba'd 1918 Ishapore, I have a K-31, and can probably shoot 400 yds before the crops get planted!!!!

A mad minute is 10 shots at 300 yds, and how big are the targets, where can you get 300 yd targets?

Gunzablazin here is an article explaining what the madminute is. It didn't say how large a target needed to be though.

YouTube - Mad Minute at WSRA ANZAC day Shoot 2008
The target is usually what's termed (in the UK) a Figure 11 target, which is the full sized advancing soldier target. The (current) record set in 1914 was with 38 rounds within a 12" circle at 300 yards. (Some folks still can't do that in 60 minutes!!!)

"The original feat was performed by Sergeant Instructor Snoxall in 1914. It was 38 shots into a 12" bull at 300 yards. Prone, iron sights, no sling, loading with 5 round chargers."

" Sgt. Instructor Snoxall at the British School of Musketry set the record in 1914 with 38(!) hits. Scores of 34- 35 hits were not uncommon."

I always thought the K-31 had speed and accuracy over the Enfield but the Enfield had Mag capacity over the 31 so you did not have to reload as often. The K-31 is fast if you slap the bolt back and forth which is what its designed for.

Wun it is doubtfull in my opinnion that the record will be broken due to the fact that people spend more time with semi auto rifles nowdays.

Maybe you guys across the 'pond' do but us Brits aren't allowed Semi-auto centrefires so we stick with bolt actions. But I agree with you, I doubt if that record will ever be broken.

Well surely some one on here can manage that............38 rounds in one minute within a 12" circle at 300 yards................come on all you AR15 hotshots.....we''ll even let you use optical sights (no benchrests, bipods or sandbags though......a little bit of the spirit of original).........less than two mags.....should be a piece of cake! Let's here it????
