I was seriously considering retiring my no1 mkIII. This weekend I took the old gal out for a last hurrah. After seeing how she still shot I think I will keep her active as my holiday rifle. Here is the target, was shooting from around 75m +/-.

Nice shooting Sprout. I have yet to take my No. 1 back out to the range since the problems I had with it. I have been looking for bolt heads that will cure the head spacing issue. Kind of put it on the back burner for awhile and will fix it when I happen to find a good bolt head. Keep her around for awhile longer. looks like she will take care of you for several more years. |

Good shooting there. What kind of ammo were you shooting? I've got a nice place to retire her to if you want too

I fired a box of Prvi and a box of Federal. I am not sure how tight groups were as I was just blasting until empty. It sure was a good time I have been getting concerned at the age of the rifle and the fact that the barrel is pitted, dull, and the rifling is very worn. I was pretty surprised to see that it was just about on the money, seems a little low and to the right, I think low because I ranged for 100 yds., right, I have no idea

Looks good to me. Perhaps semi-retirement will be a good option.

Sprout: Pardon the dumb question, but when these targets are photographed, is the diameter of the dark area usually about 12" or so? I've been seeing target photos on Internet 'bulletin boards' since winter '07/'08 and nobody seems to describe how wide they are. Was too embarassed to ask. Being a guy who never shoots at paper (several times used the peel off black plastic), can only guess about the width. My targets are bricks and plastic juice jugs etc and seldom have the chance to shoot with anybody. Last edited by Laufer; 06-13-2009 at 02:42 AM. |

If you consider that each actual hole is in the region of .311 of an inch you can easily calculate the size of the target.

And that make the black area about 4 inches or about 5 moa.
