| Sportsman’s Guide sometimes has new unissued military stocks. I saw some in the past for No4, MK1s, SMLEs, '03/03A3 (both configurations w/scant & S grips), Mauser K98ks, and M1 Garands. They are probably getting them from some distributer or other source somewhere. You might have to Google around. There are also "aftermarket" stocks that may be as good if not better than the originals. Before you embark on such a venture, consider the possible need to replace the barrel and metal hardware too. You might come out better preserving your historical No.5 and adding a No4, MK1 to your collection.

Thanks SightnSqueeze for the reply. I'll check Sportsman Guide. I won't change anything but the rear stock on the rifle. I'm too tall for the short stock and it knocks me around too much. I'll be keeping the short stock as it came with the rifle 40 odd years ago... I like shooting the old gal, just not interested in having the recoil... andy

There are several on auctionarms.com He doesn't list the length, so you'd have to ask him. And I'm not sure if they're for a no1 or no4. Also, have you tried numrich? Also keep an eye on ebay. Used to see a lot of butts there. |

Hey Daffy thanks for the heads up. I've tried Numrich, no go . As for ebay how to explain to my wife, I'm bidding on some strange butts? |

How about one of those 'slip-on' limb savers, will add about an inch and give a good cushioning effect as well. It won't alter the 'originality' of your No5 and saves taking it apart. | |

Hey Alan thanks for the tip,but the "slip ons" just don't look right. Might try to convert a long No.4 butt to No.5 specs. andy |

I think you well have to get a #4 butt if you want a longer one. I do not recall reading about or seeing different lengths for the #5. I just compared my long stock #4 to my #5, you well gain a half inch, more if you add the #5 rubber butt plate.
