| Gosh Darn It To Heck, Anyways!
Had my second case head separation with my Lee Enfield no. 4 Mk. 1 in three trips. And once again it was S&B brass what did it. Never had a separation with any other brass. Wondering if I got a hold of a bad batch of cases. Fortunately after the last one I purchased a broken shell extractor for .303 Brit. And for once it worked just like advertised. Yanked the broken off case out the first try.

I assume it was a reloaded case - I've never heard of new S&B brass splitting. For reloaders the S&B is worse than 'rubbish' (garbage), throw it away and get some good brass - Privi Partisan is about the best of the commercial brass - I'm on my 10th reload with some. Emergency tool kit tip : Get an Enfield Oiler bottle, remove the 'spoon' and you'll find that you can fit in all the emergency components you could need for a quick fix at the range : Broken case removal tool Extractor spring Extractor Screw Extractor Slim watchmakers screwdriver ( for the extractor screw) Fit the oiler where it was meant to go - in the butt - and you've always got it with you. |

Yes it was a reloaded case. It isn't splitting, the head is completely separating, leaving the rest of it stuck in the rifle chamber. As for throwing it away, sounds right. I am tossing any of it after the next firing. Just making sure that the broken shell extractor is in the range bag with me.

No gas...I didn't even notice till no shell ejected. Hole right there in the target with the rest of the group, too.

S&B is great factory ammunition but I will not reload an S&B brass. They are too brittle and case/head separation is the result. Stan in SC |
