| Member | Unissued Number 4 mark 2
I have an unissued number 4 mark 2 that I have had around 15 years and I picked up another several months ago. Does anyone know what one of unissued rifles are worth? I am considering selling or trading one. Still have original grease in the barrel. |

To give you a realistic figure (assuming you are in the USA) look on gunbroker.com and see what a similar rifle is selling for. Some have unrealistic selling / starting prices and dont sell, so look for ones that actually have bids on them. | |

| I wish I knew. I do know that they were selling for about $100-120 new and unissued with light colored hardwood stocks at a local Roses Hardware and Department store about 14 years ago. They had the post-war improvements of course like the receiver mounted trigger. I wish that I had bought one ... or two ...

I saw two VERY nice Enfields a customer had in the gun store around here the other day. I was wondering where people get those kinds of guns from. They really looked nice, thats for sure.

Maybe with so many WW2 veterans passing away, these are from their estates.

| The No.4 Mk2 rifles are not WW2,most of the rifles such as the OP is describing were made in the mid 1950s.An importation of these unfired rifles occured about 20 years ago. Some were still in the cosmoline and paper wrap with the correct numbered bayonet.Rumoured to have been made for Ireland.Maybe one of our English allies on this forum can post some info.I bought one of the unissued rifles at I believe a price $239.95 at the time.Still haven't fired it.

You are right Jim, these are post war. Most were 1955 that I have seen. Like I said I have 2 of them. I purchased my first one 15 years or more ago and it came with an unissued bayonet, all in (Mummy Wrapped) Cosmoline which like an idiot I opened up. One still in the wrap just sold for $1,200.00 Are you sure your bayonet is numbered? I read they didn't number those bayonets and mine is not numbered. The second one I have came from an estate collection, it is out of the wrap but still has a lot of grease on it. It also has an arsenal patch on the stock which confused me until I learned that happens with unissued guns, an imperfect new stock is patched and still used on a new gun. I have been told those are like mis-strike coins, more desirable because of the rarity. Not sure. I am new to this forum, can photo's be posted here? Also when I logged on it said I have a private message but my popup blocker ate it, any way to retrieve that? Thanks guys |

I think you're right about the bayo. You're not the only idiot,I opened mine up too.Who was to know at that time. There was tons of them and good ammo on the market. And I'd bought an $89.95 near new No.4 Mk1 to shoot so I at least kept it in unfired condition.Mooseman recently made a post some where about how to post pictures.

The Irish contract rifles are an excellent example of Marketing Hype, they are no different to any other No4 Mk2 but for some reason "Irish" is commanding a real premium. (One of the Hong Kong or St Kitts would be much rarer) The second point is that it it is not 'uncommon' to unwrap a "mummy" rifle and find serious corrosion as the cosmoline has actually been found to hold moisture - some folks spend a premium on a mummy wrapped Irish rifle and when they do open it they are dissapointed - bit like a vintage wine - open the bottle and its gone sour. Thirdly - why would you want a new Enfield, its absolutely no history, not been there and done it, no character, why not just buy a new plastic-fantastic remmington - its probably more accrate as well. But each to their own I guess thats what makes the world go around. Heres a list of the contacts and the rifle serial numbers : PF No4 Rifle Numbers By Contract : PF301547-PF304047 Anglo Egyptian Sudan 2,500 PF 309348-PF359347 Irish Republic 50,000 PF359348-PF359817 Zambia 70 PF359818-PF359952 Singapore 135 PF 359952-PF360052 Jamaica 100 PF360053-PF360202 Trinidad 150 PF360263-PF360238 St. Vincent 36 PF360239-PF360258 St. Kitts 36 PF360460-PF381159 Uganda 20,700 PF361260-PF401086 Burma 38,827 PF 405293-PF405412 St Vincent 20 PF407449-PF407648 Trinidad 200 PF407849-PF407728 Zanzibar 80 PF411265-PF411461 Kenya 197 PF411462-PF411471 Hong Kong 10 |

I can't seem to find all those Enfield pics i took a few months ago and they are way in the back of the safe so I will post the only one I found. I will take more when I get a chance. Oh, at the top of the picture that is an unissued Russian SKS... Ok, here's my try at posting a picture, lol. |

Nice pair of No4's. I have seen a lot of the UF and PF series No4's on the market lately. Some have the nerve to ask $1200 bucks for them, most are in the $600 area. I'm glad I got mine when prices were lower. Still would like a PF series rifle.
