So by myself, no dogs, in the desert, I attempted to chase tose little bugers around and around. One thing I did find out is that a Primo's Hawk Screamer would freeze them in their little tracks. If anyone else has some tips and tricks they would like to share, this would be a good thing. I always like to know what others have tried.....:drive:

Well another great day chasing pheasants! I got him in kind of an open area when my big male "RANGER" pinned him down my little female "HONOR" lived up to her name and backed him. It was real windy today 25+knots so I shot him with some #4 Heavi-shot. Now for the funny part I am trying to cross an old dry river bottom as both dogs are on point on the far side. Well as I am moving with all speed thru the berry bushes he flushes from 10 yards right at my head. Well as I swing for a shot 180 degrees in the opposite direction at about 125 degrees sprung up this fifty year old cotton tree and as my Benelli hits it at full swing it just kind of went thunk! Well all I could do was laugh and enjoy the rest of the day!:veryhappy:

Usually they plant on Tuesdays and Fridays but they did not plant because of the Holiday. We worked the Dogs and I for four hours but we got our birds. Pictures are not the best. Never can get the dogs to pose well. Particularly with no help (not there forte) The first picture is my two tear old and the second is the "Old Man". He will be eleven on the 21st of this month.

Hey guys I have decided to hunt me a turkey when the season opens here in CA next week. I haven't ever hunted before, but I have my license, and an upland bird stamp. I camped at paradise campground in the los padres national forest for labor day and there was wild turkeys walking the campground morning and night so I was planning on going back to the campground and hiking up the trail the turkeys were coming down. My question is that I called the Santa Barbara ranger station and asked how far away from the campground I need to be to shoot. The ranger lady told me she thought I was supposed to be 1.5 miles from a campground. I looked at the DFG website and it looks to me like I should only need to be 150 yards away from dwellings or roads. What do you think? I don't want to get a fine, but I don't want to get jerked around by some ranger either.

I was not going to go today because of the rain, but as i sat and had
my coffee i changed my mind. I walked this field twice and could not get
anything to flush. I hunt without a dog.. The reason being the ticks this year are terrible.
I have had them on me every time i have hunted. Well a short story 3 flushed one hen and two roosters. The two roosters seemed to stay together as the hen went in the opposite direction so this made the shot a little bit easier. I shot the two with Nitro 12 Gauge No.6, this seems to work better for me as i hunt with a Ruger over and under, modified in the top chamber and improved cylinder in the second barrel. I have missed the last 7 birds that where pheasants and tried to figure out what i was doing wrong after many ideas i came to the conclusion that the illuminated sites that i had put on the shotty was just getting in my way and i was paying attention to lining the sites up and not concentrating on the bird. I'll tell you this there is nothing better than to just look down the barrel top and lead the birds, both shots where in the head area...........

Well enjoy the photos and please write something as you view, bad or good i love to hear from you fellas..Thanks for stopping by...Earl Easter
