SW99 disappointment

I'm so upset. I bought a new SW99. During my examination I found the front sight to be loose. I took it to the range and it shot a full two inches too low. I figured maybe the loose sight had something to do with it. So I used my front sight tool that came with me wheeler kit and boom! The nut broke off when I tried to loosen the it. Boy am I fuming. My guess is someone at the gun store swaqpped front sightposts and mucked it up. I hope Smith helps me.

I went by a friends house the other day,Asking him if he wanted to go to the tulas gun show, he gave me a very old smith&wesson pistol. It is a break open, thats about all I know.

Hello. First time handgun owner here.

I finally set-up some targets the other day for my recently purchased Sigma 9VE (which I now believe I over-paid for - but that's another story/problem).

I was pretty shocked upon my first few shots from about 10-15 yards (30-40 feet?) when I hit the target...not once.

Moving the target closer (approximately 5 yards/12-15 feet) I continued to "miss" (not hit inside the black - much less the orange/red-bullseye) for a couple more shots.

When I finally saw "a hit" (on the board), it was a good 12"-18" down-and-to-the-left of center-target. I then simply aimed 12"-18" up-and-to-the-right, and was finally able to get inside the black.

How on earth do I "fix" this please? I believe this pistols site adjusts for "windage" (only?), but I have no clue how to do that.

I have a friend with a 20 ga. S&W model 916 pump. He wants to trade for an old bearcat .22 I have. You can't get parts for eather, should one of them break! Would you trade for the 20 ga?

Hi....I am new here....you seem to have good down to earth input..I welcome that.

I am about to buy a mint nickel K38 1953....it has been a safe queen.

I shoot bullseye and want to add this to my collection.

Its a wide rib double action 6 inch with std trigger and hammer..grips match seriel number.

I would have preferred target hammer and trigger and single action but I still think I am lucky.

The other choice I have is a 1948 target with wide rib, target trigger and hammer ...but well used....very well looked after about 97%.

It seems to be a shame to use the pristine nickel gun for the range but good guns of that vinatge are getting harder to find...

Since they are the same price $800 I think the nickel is hard to pass up...what do you guys think..

Is this Mod safe or not for the S&W Sigma?

New (to me) 686. What to expect?

I had a short "honey-do" list yesterday so filled some time at a local gun show. Impulsively I bought a Smith & Wesson 686-1, 4" with wood grips, .357 Mag. (estimated mid-'80s vintage) in immaculate condition for $475. In all of my years around firearms I've only seriously handled two revolvers (Ruger Bearcat and Single Six), always buying and shooting semis (German-made Sigs in 9mm, .40 and .45). I even bought some ammo (box of .38 Spl semiwadcutters and Hornady .357 Mag LeverEvolution, both 158 gr.). I bought it to give myself an introduction to serious (read: centerfire) wheel guns. What should I expect?

I eased the trigger on my Sigma a little more and the accuracy is coming along.

I had already done a trigger job on it to get it down to about7#. I decided to try the trigger mechanism with just the ball point pen spring. This really lightened the trigger. I had already modified the striker spring making it about 21# over the original 18#. It adds to the pull a little, but there are no misfires at all and the gun handles a lot better yet.

my wife surprised me today with smith&wesson 1911 DK 5 inch barrel and adjustible rear sights a truly georgious pistol. also very well balanced. so far i have put 50 rounds of magtech fmc through it. it is my first 1911 oh yes ifogot it is .45 caliber. i can't say i've heard a lot about S&W 1911's does anyone have any input on them. she just retired from there and it was a gift to me.

K-38 mod 14-2 hammer doesn't stay cocked?

I inherited a K-38 mod 14-2 from a family-friend who was a retired police officer. Included with the gun was his receipt dated 1965 which reads in handwriting: "K-38 Target, Douglas 6" Bull BBL, Hurst grips, Target hammer, Special double-action trigger job, new condition" (he was obviously not the original purchaser).

I have a question about the hammer - it doesn't lock in the cocked position. I figure that this was an intentional modification, but I don't understand its purpose, so I haven't taken it to the range. My guess is that he used this gun for target practice/competition?

I'm new to the forum and relatively inexperienced when it comes to firearms.

Any thoughts as to why, or cautions / special considerations regarding taking it to the range?

I recently purchased two pistols. If anyone could give me there dates of manufacture I would greatly appreicate it.

1st- Does not have a model # stamped on it but I believe it is a Model 10 serial number on the butt is C965X and where the other gun has the model number it has the number. 7189

2nd- Model 36- serial # 1739XX
