First I'd like to say I like the forum and I'm glad I have found a good place on the Enfield. I picked up an old sporterized enfield at a local gun show this fall and would really appreciate some help identifying the model. It has a mass of mismatched parts on it and I'm having a hard time determining if it is a No1 Mark 3 or a No4 mark 1. The barrel had sights that have been removed and the receiver has been machined with a custom L sight above the bolt. I would like to get this shooting a bit better as its High and to the left about 6 in but with good grouping.

Anyhow if I could get some opinions on what No. of enfield I am dealing with that'd be great. A link to the pictures is below:

I have a no4 mk1 from 1946 in good shape, i unfortunately cut the bottom forearm part of the stock a used it to hunt bear for a few years. I am now thinking or getting rid of it i have the other pieces for the stock besides the one i cut to return to original. What is this thing worth?
I now have Number 134 which was originally issued to South Wales Police, and the new one which is number 483 issued to the Northern Ireland Police.

Had a quick try-out last night (just as it was getting dark) and was getting under 1" 5 shot groups at 75 yards. It will improve.

Woodwork is dirty but it will clean up nicely.

Both have the correct Pecar 4-10 scopes, PH slings and Parker Hale bipods and the PH5E/4 micrometer sights.
No134 has 3 (numbered) magazines and a spare (numbered) forend.

A picture of the 'twins' and then of number 483

I know, it's blasphemy, but I bought a sporter. This is an old Santa Fe by Golden State Arms. My very first gun I bought was an Enfield, mail order from the back of some gun rag. I can't recall what model but do know I lusted after doing a full spoter job on it, that never happened as Uncle Sam had other plans for me. Anyway I ran across this thing locally and for $150 made it mine. I have finally fulfilled my adolescent dream (one of them) of a custom Lee Enfield. It's too late for the Liz Taylor dream!

Bore is excellent, blue is very good, several holes on the side of the receiver:crazy:. Cool old Williams scope mount and a cheap Barska scope. It needed a extractor spring, good head space with a #1 bolt head. If it well stop raining I well go shoot it and see what I have. I'm not sure if it's a rof or what. old # is PF 34XX. I'm pretty sure it's a 4/1, I'll know more when I tear it down.

Now don't laugh!

So, as title states, I got to shoot the Enfield that I picked up around a week ago, yesterday. It didn't go so well.... I know I need an ejector screw, and I was having problems with extraction here and there too, but that could have been the bad ammo... I was shooting some really poop surplus that had horrid primer delays, and about 5 complete duds out of 30 rounds, and many more that required two to three strikes to fire... Got sick of shooting that crap and just quit shooting the Enfield. lol The only good news I can pull from it is that I didn't die, the gun didn't explode, and from 100 yards, it was still hitting pretty tight, not anything spectacular, but better then I was thinkin it would! lol Now the plan is to buy an ejector screw and some better ammo and try it again. if the ejection problem isn't solved by better ammo, then work the bugs outta that too! She's nothing much now, but I don't ever seem to give up on guns, and atleast this one is a solid project that's worth it.

Hello

I just bought this No. 4 Mk.I Rifle about 5 hours ago. It a Brummie* Yob, being made by Birmingham Small Arms at Shirley in 1943.

All of my other Lee-Enfield rifles (an "entire collection" of three, including this one) were bought in "sporterised" condition and I pieced them back together. This was my first one that was complete. The bolt and action body number match. Other than a broken extractor spring (which I do have a spare...not a new thing for me), and a safety catch that I need to replace, there is a light bit of surface corrosion that I think will come off with some Kroil fairly easy, overall it's in good shape.

This photo was taken prior to a good take down and thorough cleaning. I might post "after photos" as well, along with other details I find.
Thanks
Mark

I've finally got an Enfield after wanting for the past seven years. lol I picked up a NO.4 Mk.1* by Savage I believe, for $100. Now, I bought it at that price realizing it wouldn't be much more then just a shooter, which is all I wanted in the way of an Enfield so far. After tearing it down today, I realized that it was completely missing it's ejection screw, the buttstock was a bit loose, the barrel had bad pitting on the outside, and the plunger/spring assembly for the rear sight was rusted stuck and useless. So far, I have managed to free up the plunger/spring and cleaned it up to where it operates just right, cleaned all the bad rust that caused the pitting on the barrel and then just generally cleaned it back up to being somewhat respectable. lol In the process I did happen to manage loosing the forward barrel band's screw... :pat:Whoops! lol Now, my questions are... One, is there anything that can be used in place of the specific ejection screw, i.e. just a machine screw of some sort? Or, do I need to order the $10 one and wait a friggin week for it? lol
Two, is there any way to tighten up the buttstock on these things? Mine has what looks to be like four little nails in a row going towards the receiver obviously in an effort to wedge the stock in securely. I don't know who did that, some guy or the Britts, but none the less, it's there. Also, I'll have some pictures of it up soon, one just to show (even though she ain't great, she's mine and I'm PROUD to finally have one!) and two, to get an opinion on how bad you all think this pitting is. I'll be running it to my gunsmith to get his thought on it too. So far, my dad seems to think it's fine, but I'm just paranoid and would much rather just try to be safe then sorry! Thanks alot guys! I look forward to learning much about Enfields from you all, (probably alot of the same guys that I gained so much from already with Mausers, Mosins, and K31s:You_Rock_Emoticon:) and also looking forward to being as helpful as I possibly can be to others!
