I made the trip up to J&G Sales this morning looking for a couple of nice underfolders. The Yugo Underfolders leave the Romanian's in the dust. Absolutely zero comparison. These rifles were so nice, I BOUGHT 2! All they had were wood forends so I paid the same price as for a plastic. Basically, I got $20.00 off per rifle. I also picked up 2,000 rounds of 7.62 X 39 MM. 1,000 rounds of Brown Bear, factory sealed in plastic in an unopened box. And 1,000 rounds of Golden Tiger. These guns are nice. Built like brick $h!thouses. The only thing is no cleaning rods. But the sights are straight as an arrow.

I also grabbed 5, 75 round drum magazines new in the oiled paper for $400.00, $80.00 bucks a pop. The guy tried all of the drum magazines in both rifles before he sold them to me, then told me if anything wasn't right to bring it back in 30 days, and they'll exchange them. That's as good as a sore dick, you can't beat it! I'll try and post some pics of the drums a little later. They are absolutely beautiful for the price.

Just a note. After I loaded up the truck for the trip home the guy told me they just got 20 more Yugo Underfolders in. If anyone's interested, I'd jump on it fast, these are really nice rifles! The only thing "wrong" is no cleaning rods, but I just ordered 4 from gun Parts Corp. They should be here in 3 to 5 days. Bill T.
I feel like a traitor! I hope my German inspired American rifle can get along with the Russians; I lost my Enfield for several months only to discover that the Russians had stuffed poor Lee in the closet.

Finally went retro with my Saiga. Got my $25, four piece Bulgarian AK74 wood from APEX (awesome) and brown US grip from a dude on another board. The wood really didn't even need refinishing. It is excellent +, but I re-finished to get it redder. All 10 of my Mil-surp combloc mags have new -KVar US followers installed, so with the US brown grip, my 922 is in order.

I love wood on AKs. I was so indoctrinated to AK103ism with the Saiga, though, I didn't think of a very simple solution until I was refinishing the Springfield Armory potbelly stock for my M1 Carbine. "Duh, just put wood on the Saiga!" Then I found the Bulgarian wood with the grooved stock and palm swell handguard and I was hooked!

I used red oak Minwax to darken the blond Bulgarian wood a bit. The wood was so dense that I used semigloss Minwax verathane instead of boiled linseed oil to seal it. Very sweet: Pictured with my modified Type 81 four cell Chinese chest rig.

First I want to make it clear that I have very little experience with assault rifles in general so please forgive me if I appear ignorant.

I have recently purchased a Romanian Ak 47 and this last weekend decided to check if everything fired and fed well. My rifle fired like it should but I soon noticed that my bolt carrier felt "sticky" as if it were rubbing against the sides of the housing. (In my defense I did clean it based off of several how to's from different sites so it was clean.) After I attempted to take my second shot the rifle jammed. It ejected and reloaded another round but the bolt carrier did not make a full seal around the barrel and consequently the round. I decided to interchange mags since I have a couple different varieties but it did the same thing after the second shot.

I have a suspision that it is one or more of the following: the housing (where the trigger and action are stored), the gas piston, the bolt carrier, or the gas chamber. I recleaned it all after coming back from the range and it still seems very abrasive (alot of friction)

I am no gun smith and I have relative knowledge on other weapon systems but this seemed alittle out of my league so any suggestions are welcome. Thanks

US Sets up £215m Deal for Afghan Arms - from Russia
by Thomas Harding

American defence officials have secretly requested a "prodigious quantity" of ammunition from Russia to supply the Afghan army in case a Democrat president takes over in Washington and pulls out US troops.
The Daily Telegraph can disclose that Pentagon chiefs have asked arms suppliers for a quote on a vast amount of ordnance, including more than 78 million rounds of AK47 ammunition, 100,000 rocket-propelled grenades and 12,000 tank shells - equivalent to about 15 times the British Army's annual requirements.

The Bush administration is said to want the deal because of worries that the next president could be a Democrat, possibly Hillary Clinton, who may abandon Afghanistan.

White House insiders fear that Afghanistan could "drift" and consequently, they want heavily to arm President Hamid Kharzai's government before the 2008 US presidential election.

did price go up around may 2006?

i just got my first ak (WASR 10) a few months back, and iam new to steel cased bullets, from what ive been reading it seems like polymer is better, but i loaded my magazine with polymer coated bullets and had the gun in my room for not even a month and when i removed my mag from the gun and looked the polymer coated casing was covered with rust, not to bad but way more than i want on them, so iam just wondering if lacquered coated bullets would be better? could it be i handeled the bullets to much and the sweat from my hand made them rust?

ive shot some lacquered coated caseing's, about 20 but when i went to clean the gun, the bolt face was covered with lacquer? i dont mind it really because cleaning after i shoot is no problem, but if SHTF about how many rounds could i shoot of lacquered coated before i start having problems?

sorry so many ???? but i got plenty more....none of my lacquer ones have rusted so really i like them better.....what do u think about them?

After my recent conversion on my Saiga 308, in which I used a Choate drag stock, I was left without a cheek piece to raise cheek weld for optics.
I found a cheek piece of an ATI Mauser stock, that screwed on, but I wanted it to be removable without tools, for iron sight shooting, this was my solution.

I used 1/4" multi hole hitch pins thru the cheek piece, had to file the holes out a little bit with a chainsaw file, but left them real tight so the pins wont fall out, the screw holes in the cheek piece were already countersunk, so the heads of the pins are hidden and out of the way.

I marked and drilled the stock where I wanted the piece, leaving these holes rather snug also, though not as tight as those in the cheek piece.
I used hitch pin retainer clips to hold the cheek piece on the stock.

Next, I marked and drilled the bottom of the stock, so I can keep the piece with the rifle, even when I am shooting open sighted, and it can be moved from top of stock, to stowed on bottom without tools.

I have got into many shooting positions, and nothing seems to be in the way, I will probably take the pins out and cold blue them at some point.

Thanks!
