I have been reading up on removing the cosmoline off of them and am very thankful to Cyranos post on the subject. That being said I need some advice on what type of lubricants or other supplies I should buy to keep these old wardogs fighting strong.

What do you use or recommend?
Thanks a ton,
Shot so so. I was trying to adjust my rear sight. So you can see the bullet holes that seem to be all over is me adjusting the rear sight by a click or two between shots to see which way the bullet moves.
However you can see a few decent groups in there.
The initial shot on all my targets is 5 shot group which you can see all impacted roughly in the same spot. After that I did 3 shot groups and 1 shot for adjustments.
Im shooting Chech Silver tips 147gr. Pretty nice for a 30 year old mil surp.

All shots were placed from a bench at 100 yards. (open sights afcourse)

ANYWAY, I picked up another stock, this one though is a pre-war (correct me if I'm wrong) since it has the screws in the sling slots. I was going to use this stock with my '31 izzy, but my new 91/30 just came in the mail today and it got me wondering which receiver should get this pre-war stock... My gut says to leave my newest edition ALONE, but I wanted to ask the experts...

I'll let the pics do all the talking... I got it from Classic, all matching numbers (except bayo of course), hand picked and I must say, for less than a hundred bones, I'M HAPPY!!!!

Well, after reading about how much everyone hear seems to like their Mosin's I started to research them a little. As a poor college student, price is one of my biggest factors. Well, I found out that I could, in theory, obtain a Mosin pretty cheap, along with possibly feeding it cheap. Anyway, being new to the whole idea of Mosin's I have a few questions. First, I know there are several different models, but what is the difference between them? They all look pretty much the same to me, except for different overall lengths. Also, do all the models shoot the same caliber? Basically, what do you guys know about them??? Thanks in advance!

I have a question on the 91/30. It's a 1941. I pulled everything apart and did a general inspection after shooting 20 rounds. It was pretty clean no big deal. I've seen different web site's talking about sticky bolts. I have one. I found all the areas that rub or have some friction point and smoothed then polished them. Put it all back together again and wow what a difference.

Here is the question. I took it all part again to see how hard it would be to pillar the mount screws. After taking measurement I put it all back together. Now my easy moving bolt is back being difficult to close and open again. Just like before. Has anyone had this problem. I would simply assume that once the bolt area was polished that's it.....

Well, got lots of input from the forum here and I thank you all for it. I took Saturday off and went to a gun show. I saw a table covered in Nagants and looked them over. The fellow pulled the bolt on one for me and I pointed it at a light and checked the bore. There were no pits and except for some dents, it looks real nice. It is a Moisin Nagant M91/30 from Century International Arms Inc. . In the receiver it stamped "1939", and the stock has a bunch of stamps in it. All the numbers match as well. It came with an oil can, cleaning kit, and bayonet which does not fit, but will soon. I am very happy with the gun, and after a good cleaning session I will shoot it. I do have one question. To adjust windage, I am going to have to move the front sight right ? If this is the case , how do I do that ?

the izzy is shooting at the 4-5 oclock about 7 in. at 50 or so yds. i correct this how? i assume drifting the front sight to the right a bit? being low is just a result of being at the 200yd battle zero right? the front sight has an indexing mark on it and its lined up. i always thought the mark was placed on there from rearsenal. is this correct? should i look at another problem such as a worn barrel? i havent slugged either of my mosins. was shooting bulgy lightball from the same spam can

I've been planning on making a Magazine slinghanger for a while and finally
got around to it. I purchased a couple of spare mags,(or trigger guards as there called on eBay) from Gunbroker around a year ago. I modeled the hanger more along the style of the Russian pre-1909 M91 rather than the
hanger found on the,I think, Romanian91/30. The major difference is the Russian uses a rivet and the other uses a screw to attach to the magazine. I would have rather used a screw but I couldn't find one the correct diameter for the floorplate to clamp onto and not rattle. The whole hanger is made of 3/16 steel rod. You need a torch to bend the rod as it won't bend very well cold. As you can see in the pics its a little to small for the Russian sling to fit through, the ends are doubled over
and just too thick to fit through.Had to use the dog collar. It works great with a sling from my Finn M39 though. I think I may make another one with a screw and check with Atlanic Bolt Supply to see if maybe they have a metric screw that will be suitable, then I could use a Russian sling if I wanted to. Its a bit crude looking, but ya know,it kinda blends in with some of the Russian parts anyway:09:. What next? , you ask. Maybe a wooden cheek rest like on the British Enfield sniper rifles,I do have an extra stock.:)
