Hi all. Sorry to create a new account and get right to posting.... :hail: but I need some advice....

I have previously owned several rifles as a teenager. A 30-06 Remington 700, a Winchester .270 and various shotguns/handguns amongst other things. I have always been a Rifle fan, and I am feeling the urge to celebrate my new Airman First Class rank in the USAF with some vintage rifles.

I am currently interested in a....

Mauser, preferably an 8mm. I'm currently looking at this

AIM Czechoslavakian vz. 24 8mm Mauser Rifle Czechoslavakian vz. 24 8mm Mauser Rifle

and also a Mosin Nagant which is here.....

AIM Russian 1891/30 7.62x54R Mosin Nagant Rifle Russian 1891/30 7.62x54R Mosin Nagant Rifle

so...my questions are these....

1. are these good rifles to be looking at?

2. are these examples worth their price?

3. what is a good buy for a Mauser around $200 - $300 and a Mosin Nagant (no price point or conditional preference here...just a good shooter)?

4. and finally any advice to the novice vintage collector?

Thanks....and hopefully I can assist the forums in the future!

Hi all, I just picked up my first Mauser, 1940 with stock, barrel, and receiver numbers matching (the rest do not ) and still has Nazi markings on barrel and receiver that are not stamped over.
I read on another forum that some one recommended using the "scrubbing bubbles" bathroom tile cleaner on the wood and claimed it didn't hurt the finish. Anyone ever use this, or have a better suggestion? I want to keep the original finish in tack since it's in pretty good shape. The stock is solid wood not laminated.
I used Murphy oil soap to clean up my Mosin 91/30 stock and it worked well, when I tried it on my Enfield No.4 MKI* it dried out the wood and I had to put a few coats of Tru oil on it to make it look ok again. I'm looking for a way to clean it up without destroying the origional finish. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Paid $300 for it, lots of gouges but that just adds to the historical value for me, smoothest action out of ALL my rifles, matching numbers all around, fires 7mm. Wondering where to find the year she was made in, where she came from and all that good stuff :blindfold:.

Well, for lack of a better term, I thought I'd borrow it from the MN book. The guy that sold it to me said the receiver was milled to accept scope mounts. I have been able to find a little info after some preliminary research. It wasn't the fact that it used to have a scope mounted on it as it was the $100 I paid for it that was appealing.

The bore looks to have nice and pronounced lands and grooves. It shows some use, and the bore looks pretty dark. We'll see how it turns out after I take some cleaners to it. I have found reproduction mounts at Numrich, and they are quite pricey and don't even include any mounting hardware. I'd like to find some mounts so I can scope it. If anyone has any info or ideas about that please do share. As far as finding a scope, probably too expensive but input is welcome. I don't know much about the Czech Mausers, so if anyone can say when it was made, that would also be appreciated. Would this rifle need a bent bolt to operate with a scope? Thanks in advance for any input.

Also, does anyone know how I can get the screws out that are in the stock? They are kinda like the Mosin Nagant recoil bolt, with two holes in them. I have a pair of snap ring pliers but I'm afraid it might bend them too far and ruin them if I try to unscrew them too hard.

Hi,
I am putting it into ATI stock with built-in scope rail.

Is there an easy way to remove front sight completely?
It looks like it was put on a barrel, not welded to it.

Thanks.

I am very fortunate as I have a good friend that is the manager of a local, large chain pawn shop that calls me when nice guns or unusual guns are about to drop from pawn and she called me last night and said that this browning mauser model 9P in a 22-280 Rem caliber gun was about to come out and it also included a case that has 6 barrels included that are all in stainless steel. She knew the previous owner and said that he has never shot this rifle and she also notes that it looks as if it was manufactured yesterday. Flawless was her exact words. Does anybody have any info as I could not seem to find any on my internet search. I have not seen the gun myself but will be hot footing it up there today to take a look. Any info will be appreciated.

edit. The 9P part came from a paper tag that was on the gun. it actually say 98 as i suspected. the 22-280 part is actually 22-250 that is poorly double stamped on the barrel that kinda looks like 280.

I recently picked up a 93 Mauser sporter, though I am having some trouble identifying when and where it was made. There are very few markings on the gun, the top of the receiver has a mark that cannot be read. The bottom of the receiver has a marking that is mostly gone with a first line beginning with a 'K' and the second line beginning with an 'F'. There is a 5 point star with a circle on the trigger assembly, a 4 digit serial stamped on the left middle of the receiver, and a .8MM stamped on the rear of the barrel that looks like a newer mark. It is in great shape and has probably been re-blued and put into a newer wood stock (Bishop butt-plate) and Buehler safety. I am no Mauser expert - but, I'm sure it's a 93 bolt (flat bottom bolt face - small ring, cock-on-close). I am additionally confused as to whether it is a .318 I or .323 IS caliber 8MM. If anyone has any ideas I would appreciate the info. Thanks.

Just picked up this Swede Target rifle in 308. Paid $400 for it. Suspect it was a fair price.
Any info on this type rifle? Can't seem to find anything but the 6.5 target rifle info.

I have a double trigger Mauser sporter that my father bought back in the 80's for 25 bucks . It is in really good condition with a really nice sporter stock, scope and still has about 95% bluing on the reciver and barrel. Wish I had pics but my brother has it at his house and has been dealing with "the problems" for abour two years now and its time to take it back. Now about the problems and questions, the rifle came with no bolt seems the first owner took it out and misplaced it 10 yrs before it even crossed my pops ("He knew somebody who knew about stuff like that" , the guy move away)and too make matters worse the caliber is also unknown and the rifle is unmarked. So, how hard would it be to find a bolt for it and find out what caliber it is or would it be safer to rebarrel? Also how expensive are good bolts? I once got told by a gunsmith that it was not worth the trouble but when you look at her I can see myself taking a whitetail with her. I could make it into a lamp :omfg: but, it's too nice and my girlfriend would never let me put it the living room!

Another quick question would it be a good idea to try the bolt of my 1912 chiean mauser to check if its a standard large ring action? No live ammo will be used in any way and I have not tried the "drop test" with live ammo to check for caliber, that too unsafe in my book.

I was at the gun shop today and found a cobbled Mauser. I'm pretty sure it's am M93 Spanish Mauser. It's 7x57, but there are no markings to speak of. It has a cobbled military stock with a very faint circle with a faint 1895 in it. It's not a Chilean Mauser. It does have a bent-down bolt, but that may not be original. The trigger has obviously been altered at one point.

Anyway, I felt sorry for it so I had him put it aside for me (150 bucks).

I just had to get it because I've been pining for a 7x57 Mauser since I offed my Spanish short rifle in the late 1980's. I still have some ammo, and brass, and a neck-sizing die. This one is cobbled enough so I won't feel bad fixing it up un-originally.

I'll post some pics when I get it (Halloween would be appropriate).
