| PA-63 Barrel Change
Hi all. Anybody ever change out a barrel on one of the PA-63's? I was looking at a 380 Version at yesterdays gun show and compared it to my 9x18 which I was carrying. Basically I couldn't find any difference except for the barrel. Numerich has them as a drop in item. I was thinking that if you could press the barrel in, it would be an inexpensive way to get the 380 cal for plinking. 9x18 is getting expensive around here. I have not had the opportunity to work on the PA-63 yet. However, if it is like the Makarov, you have to drive the retaining pin out and carefully press the old barrel out . The trigger guard spring rests on the bottom of the barrel, so if you do not remove the trigger guard, reinstalling the spring upon barrel replacement is nearly impossible. ...press the new barrel in place, Drill a new pin hole thru the barrel blank and drive the pin back in... Reassemble the gun... Rich

| RCHjr I am headed to the Shot Show to ask the Importers just that question since it is so small of a difference we shall see if we can get them in 380 but they have only been avabilale is small numbers in the past that is why they are so expensive. And 380 ammo is cheaper for us . |

dont do it! get the standard 9x18 barrel. .380 is the hardest and most expensive ammos out there right now. nearly all dealers are out of it and the makarov 9x18 is plentiful right now. as far as changing the barrels: it is simple no press needed. i popped the barrel pin out and tapped it lightly with a hammer and it came right out. popped the new one in and done

I've had absolutely no problems shooting 380ACP ammo in my PA63 with the original 9x18mm barrel . . . . so why pay to swap the barrel when the original will handle either 380ACP or 9x18mm?

I would go with the SS barrel if you want a change. Like others have said 380 is pretty hard to find. As far as the change, it's very easy. Pop out the pin under the barrel and give it a tap or 2 with a soft hammer. As the barrel slides out you have to get the hammer out of the way. Slide in the new barrel, a few taps, insert pin, voula, changed. Heres a pic of the SS barrel, it's about 2-3 mm longer: ![]() |

I like the SS barrel idea. Where in the world did you find a stainless barrel? Out West |

I have a Mak PA-63 and recently found someone who has one in .380. He has had it about ten years. How rare are the .380 ones? What is the value of one of them now? this is the first time that I have seen one. Anyone know?

They are not very rare and usually they are not called PA63. I have one and it is somewhat better built than the PA63 and all steel. I saw one recently at a pawn shop for $230. Attached is a pic of mine.

The one I mentioned earlier had PA-63 on the right side of the slide and looked exactly like my Mak PA-63, except for a few proof marks on it. Alloy silver slide, just like the Mak PA-63. Thanks for the photo and info.

It depends on the importer and what they are calling them. That is provided the guns are made new for the importer and not surplus guns being imported.

Besides my PA-63, I also have an AP-MBP which is a 32acp caliber. Every part is interchangeable with the PA-63 except obviously the barrel, magazine, and the slide for the barrel to fit in. But the firing pin, spring, etc... as well as the frame and all other parts are the same for both guns. I personally like the AP-MBP 32acp better. I use my CZ-82 more for the 9mm makarov. But the PA-63 is a fine gun. But the AP-MBP is sweet.
