Wonder how many of them were stolen to begin with? I don't have a single weapon I'd give up for that kind of money, even if I'd make a profit. That isn't why I own them...

Might as well hand them a shovel for the gun - they can dig their own graves.

Funny thing: the news article (once you finally get to it) says nothing about what kind of guns were being turned in. Pistols? Shotguns? Inoperable guns? What?

You can even turn a profit that way. A friend of mine bought a ladies-model .380 in a pawnshop for his then-girlfriend to learn on. They broke up before he could give it to her. He shoots .45s and had no use for a .380. The city he lives in had a trade-in-your-guns-for-money program going at the time, so he turned it in and got $150 cash, no questions asked. He told me he made about $60 on the deal.

I have mixed feelings about this. I'm happy that he turned a profit and at the same time got rid of an unpleasant reminder of a dead romance, but I don't like the idea of turning in any kind of firearm to the local Gestapo. I don't trust them not to keep records of who turned in what, with an idea towards paying them a call later if things like HR 1022 become law.

I wonder how many of these gun turn ins wound up in the hands of their local chief of police or politcians. I don't believe the quality fire arms ever made it to the scrap heap!!!!!

you know what to expect after this next election cycle?
