New Jersey Legislature Fails to Pass Antigun Bills

Score one for the good guys. The following report comes from the National Sports Shooting Foundation website. We won this battle, but the antigunners, I am sure, will be back; their zealotry is harder to kill than Cyberdyne Terminators.

Rejects Gun-Control Measures

NEWTOWN, Conn. -- The New Jersey legislature ended its current session without passing several gun-control measures long sought by gun-ban advocates in the Garden State. The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), the trade association of the firearms industry, and the New Jersey Association of Firearms Retailers (NJAFR), an affiliate of the NSSF, reported that the legislature failed to pass a "one-gun-a-month" bill (A3511) that would have limited the number of handguns a law-abiding citizen could purchase from a licensed firearms retailer. The legislature also failed to pass a bill (A3998) to ban firearms chambered in .50 caliber, which are commonly used by sportsmen for target shooting and collecting.

"One gun a month has been a cornerstone of the gun-control movement's legislative agenda for over a decade. Banning .50-caliber firearms is also a major policy objective of the gun-control movement -- a movement whose resort to factual distortions and pandering to fears of terrorist attacks failed to sway legislators in the Garden State," said NSSF Senior Vice President and General Counsel Lawrence G. Keane.

Also, legislation (A3494) to allow the state police more discretion to increase the business-license fee for firearms retailers failed to pass out of the Assembly Law and Public Safety Committee.

"These measures would do nothing to reduce crime, but would have hurt small 'mom-and-pop' dealers who are already heavily regulated by state and federal laws," commented Bob Viden, NJAFR president and owner of "Bob's Little Sports Shop" in Glassboro, N.J.

The defeat of these anti-gun measures marks the first major legislative victory for the recently formed NJAFR. "Our victory demonstrates that when New Jersey's firearms retailers come together, we can have an impact on public policy," said Viden.

"Working with New Jersey's firearms retailers, as well as sportsmen and gun-owner groups, NSSF is pleased that these ill-advised measures were rejected by the legislature," said Keane.

The gun-control movement is expected to renew its efforts to pass these bills in the next session of the legislature. "New Jersey dealers must remain vigilant and stand together if we are going to survive in the Garden State," concluded Viden.

California already has the "one handgun a month" law. It's a pain in the fundament.

Good, they deserve every smack in the face they can get. These rat bas**rds need to be taught that they can't re-write the constitution to suit their needs, take away rights from law-abiding citizens, or do anything to make us more dependent on government entities. When was the last time they passed a law making it harder on the criminals?
