Promises breached

If you think the District of Columbia's ban on all functional firearms in all homes is a reasonable regulation under the Second Amendment, you'll love the friend-of-the-court brief filed by the Bush administration in D.C. v. Heller, now before the Supreme Court.

Well, it would seem George Bush has betrayed the Second Amendment he has purported to support for the past seven years. The gutless wonder needs to butt out of this process. What I find most particularly heinous is this about-face in light of his Attorney General's pronouncement several years ago that the Second Amendment confirms an absolute, individual right to keep and bear arms.

The supposed reason for Curious George's wimp-out is he is afraid of a sweeping ruling on the part of the Supreme Court that could also throw out things like the Gun Control Act of 1968 and particularly the Machine Gun Control Act of 1934. I am aware that it is difficult for him to use his brain, but has it not occurred to him that the Supremes may simply rule narrowly, throwing out this one specific DC law and confirming that the Second Amendment, like the other nine in the Bill of Rights, is about the rights of individuals?

By all appearances, he has not. I hope for a sweeping ruling based on George Washington's letters which define the Founding Fathers intent for the Second Amendment to be a personal individual right of every American Citizen.

GGReporter: Sir; good find. Seems a reach for the 'government' to skate around. At some point "WE THE PEOPLE" should have a voice.
