Armed Citizen puts a stop to Terrorist Attack

Some variety of Arab terrorist attacked a yeahiva in Jerusalem today. Which variety of fanatic is not clear yet; both Hezbollah and Hamas have claimed responsibility for the attack. Seven people are known to have been killed by the bad guy, whatever his allegiance. At first, the police thought there were two bad guys; it turned out there was only one.

This, however, is what I found interesting about the msnbc.com report:

Yitzhak Dadon, a student, said he was armed with a rifle and was able to shoot one of the attackers from the roof of a nearby building. "He came out of the library spraying automatic fire. ... The terrorist came to the entrance and I shot him twice in the head," he said.

Police said one of their officers also shot the man.

"There was a lot of gunfire and hysteria," a woman who lives across the street from the school told Israel Radio.

"I saw police and ordinary civilians, who were armed, trading gunfire with the gunmen," another witness said. "The gunbattle went on for about 10 minutes."

You'll notice the Israeli citizen(s) did not stand around like a flock of sheep waiting to be slaughtered until the cops responded to the emergency. They returned fire and had the goblin dealt with by the time the police were on the scene.

If you ever want a good argument for why we need the right to keep and bear arms, there you go. The police cannot be everywhere all the time, and you wouldn't like it if they were. Citizens are expected to be able to take care of themselves. Yitzhak Dadon and his fellow Israeli citizens did a good job of that today. I salute them.

CLAP CLAP CLAP. Way to go! My main argument about carrying a gun is that police can not be everywhere all the time, and I believe it is my responsibility to be the first responder to my own defense and protection.

And as I say about the police:

"If you call 911, and they don't hang up on you, they are staffed, they come in time, to the right house...you MIGHT not be dead yet..."

people seem to forget the police are reactive. An armed citizen can be proactive. I know the readers here understand that can anyone tell me how to get the rest of the people to understand as well. Watch out somehow this atack will be blamed on Israel.
