| This is just silly and stupid. Why would anyone who DID have an illegal weapon in their home allow the police in to search in the first place? The only people who are going to let them in are the naive but law-abiding citizens who don't have any illegal weapons. This accomplishes nothing but wasting taxpayer time and money and eroding our civil liberties. |

| Just Say No I'm all for helping police do their (constitutional) job. When it comes to searching w/o a warrant (notwithstanding customs -- they can inspect as you enter or exit without warrant) it's not rude to just say no. +1

| Interestingly...this issue has also come up in Boston. This has been on the burner for about a year. In Boston if the school police hear a report of a youth having a gun, they want officers to be able to ask permision to search only the young persons bedroom. If the parent lets them in, they are good to go. There was an article in The Boston Globe just yesterday about this. This phenomenon is basically restricted to poor, African American areas. The neighborhood leaders have called the police "Vampires" and compared them to "repeat sex ofenders." Amazingly, the police commissioner of Boston cannot understand why the residents would put up such a fuss.
