good, just like Indiana law.

IC 35-47-2-7
Prohibited sales or transfers of ownership
Sec. 7. (a) Except an individual acting within a parent-minor child or guardian-minor protected person relationship or any other individual who is also acting in compliance with IC 35-47-10, a person may not sell, give, or in any other manner transfer the ownership or possession of a handgun or assault weapon (as defined in IC 35-50-2-11) to any person under eighteen (18) years of age.
(b) It is unlawful for a person to sell, give, or in any manner transfer the ownership or possession of a handgun to another person who the person has reasonable cause to believe:
(1) has been:
(A) convicted of a felony; or
(B) adjudicated a delinquent child for an act that would be a felony if committed by an adult, if the person seeking to obtain ownership or possession of the handgun is less than twenty-three (23) years of age;
(2) is a drug abuser;
(3) is an alcohol abuser; or
(4) is mentally incompetent.
As added by P.L.311-1983, SEC.32. Amended by P.L.33-1989, SEC.126; P.L.140-1994, SEC.8; P.L.269-1995, SEC.7.

Indiana Code 35-47-2

I bought my first handgun at 18, a Nagant revolver through a private sale with my mother present. now I have 2 other handguns that I bought (my mom bought) at the gun show. heck I even have my carry permit and I'm only 20.

Responsibility is taught not immediately earned at 21, like everybody else says. The tracks go both ways for stupidiy and responsibility.

I agree.... kids these days are far too coddled...
Can't argue with this. I mean really. If we trust 18 year olds to join the military and be issued hardware civilians can't even own, why couldn't we trust them to buy a handgun?

Next up: drinking age!

this law is irrelevant

alaska state law states 16 as the age, but that doesn't do anything about the federal law

The federal law only applies to buying from certified dealers. An 18 year old cannot buy a handgun from a dealer. That's illegal according to the federal government. However, an 18 year old can buy a handgun from an individual(finally). I assume this only applies to SC citizens. I know that as soon as possible(I'm thinking end of May) I will have a handgun of my own. Probably a 1911 clone

From what I understand, we can now buy pistols from individuals at 18. However, we still can't buy them from a licensed dealer and we can't buy ammo. It's annoying, but still better than before.

Let's hope this is contagious ...and other states, even Wisconsin, follows suit.
