| I wish I lived in SC. Ok, not really...I do wish CO would make that a law too. |

| Senior Member | Where can I confirm this? I live in SC and I've heard nothing. I just looked at the state paper online and nothing. You'd think they don't want us knowing... Dumb people. That would mean I can get a pistol sooner than expected. I can't express how happy that would make me*edit* Dang. This is from the SC SLED website. Quote:

| Senior Member | Sanford Signs Bill Allowing 18-Year-Olds To Own Handguns COLUMBIA, S.C. -- Gov. Mark Sanford has signed a bill that lowers the minimum age for South Carolina residents to own a handgun to 18. Federal law still prohibits firearm retailers and dealers from selling handguns to people younger than 21. But the state law now allows individuals to sell handguns to anyone 18 or older. South Carolina is one of 18 states -- and the only one in the South -- that had set 21 as the age for handgun ownership. | Good.... further proof that there are at least some level heads in the S.C. state Govt. Now if the Federal Govt. worked that way, we'd have something... Good for you guys... |

| Senior Member | Mark Sanford is a great governor. But he can't do the things he needs to thanks to the liberals in the state government. But he is doing very well. I hope the next governor can be as good as Sanford.

| Sorry. I don't know any 18 year olds mature enough to purchase a firearm on their own. |

| Senior Member | ^ there aren't as many these days, but they're more numerous than you may think. Maybe its just because I live out in the country and don't see many wackos. but out here, I wouldn't feel unsafe with most of the white 18 year olds. No I'm not being a racist. We have a lot of Latinos that may or may not be legal(my personal opinion is that a majority are illegal) and I don't think they should have any firearm at all under any condition if they're illegal. But then no one in their right mind is going to sell to another person unless they're sure of citizenship, so I don't think it'll be a problem. If a person is predetermined to kill with a firearm, they'll use a rifle if they don't have a pistol. If they want a pistol, they'll go black market and restrictions wouldn't help in the first place. So, this law helps out those honest, upstanding citizens under 21 who like to feel safer.

Sorry, sir, but I beg to differ. (and I'm one of the "older guys" approaching or at my middle age). 18 year olds can serve and vote. It's about time we let our kids grow up.

| +1 TXplt... if you are old enough to join the military, you are old enough to carry a rifle, you are old enough to carry a pistol. Responsibility is learned, not granted at 21. I agree.... kids these days are far too coddled... |

| Senior Member | ^That's the truth. The bad part is that late teenagers are starting to think the same way. They're treating like kids, so they act like them. If parents raised their kids to be responsible then actually allowed them to start taking responsibility, I don't believe there would be so much trouble with late teenagers doing stupid things(well besides that they're hormone-overloaded).

Im only 20, and all the kids I know that hunt with me are the most responsible people I know, and they all own their own guns. If 18 isnt old enough, what is? 21, 25, 30....? | |

I bought my first firearm when I was 18. I had a handgun when I was 18. No I could not have bought it myself. I could not buy ammo for it. But I had it, shot it and cared for it. If we do our job and educate our young people about the proper way to handle firearms and instill in them the proper respect for what them then they are more than qualified to own and operate a handgun! If the SHTF I would not care how old the person fighting with me was as long as that person could make good decisions or follow them.
