Clinging to the Constitution

In recent days, GOP presidential candidate John McCain has highlighted Barack Obama's comments about small-town Americans "clinging" to guns and religion. Senator McCain's comments, though, have a different spin. In Arlington, Virginia, for instance, McCain said: "I know why [residents of small towns] embrace their constitutional rights, and why they embrace their religious beliefs, and it's because they're fundamentally good and decent people. "

By referencing our constitutional right to keep and bear arms, John McCain demonstrates an understanding of this issue that has continued to escape Barack Obama. Americans don’t "cling" to their guns out of bitterness. They fight to preserve their constitutional liberties because they love this country.

If Barack Obama wants to believe that gun owners are simply bitter...he should remember something else. We're voters too, and we don't support those who believe in Chicago-style gun control.

Right now, I really don't want to hear either of the Candidates talk about what the other is doing. I want them to talk about what they are going to do! Screw trying to smear somebody's name. Tell us what you are going to do with our country and formulate a plan to do so. Tell that plan to the voters, then maybe we'd get somewhere. One of them is going to be president very soon so they'd better start acting like it.

I don't think it "Escapes" Obama. I believe he knows exactly what it is, but is working for his cohorts, working to please his consituents and working to control Americans' lives with an increased level of Governmental power.

Yup, those nasty cohorts and consituents are hiding in the woodwork everywhere, waiting to chew their way out and take over as soon as their puppet gets into office...

Far too often, Laws are made by those in power from the Big Cities - they seem to believe their draconian measures to "fight crime" in the Metropolis will also work for Mom & Pop in small-town America. Big Mistake!
Small towners are accustomed to defending themselves, not calling the police to come and pick up the pieces.
Small towners take responsibility for themselves, rather than letting the nanny State do it.

Obama needs votes - but he'll get few from the Small Towners he seems to despise so.

ROAD-RAGE CASE: Police seek to have Parrish’s gun license revoked
By MATT THACKER
Matt.Thacker@newsandtribune.com

Even if Yalanda Parrish is not indicted for her road-rage shooting this month, she may not be allowed to carry a handgun any longer.

The Jeffersonville Police Department has sent a request to the Indiana State Police, requesting that her gun license be reviewed. They hope the state will revoke her license.

Detective Charlie Thompson said a license can be suspended for a felony arrest or “improper or reckless use of a handgun.”

“When it’s been pulled out twice, I’d say that’s improper or reckless,” he said. “Carrying a handgun is not a right you have. It’s a privilege,”

Reports from the June 17 road-rage shooting — when Parrish, 39, of Jeffersonville, admits to shooting Wesley Mosier Jr., 52, of Corydon, and an incident earlier this year where Parrish pulled a gun on a motorist and then called 911 have been sent to ISP.

Lt. Jerry Berkey of ISP said Parrish likely would have to go to a revocation hearing in Indianapolis if she wanted to keep her license. He said he was not aware if the department had received a request to revoke Parrish’s license. Once it is received, a decision could be made within a week.

Although it would be easier to revoke a license if Parrish is convicted, there does not need to be a conviction, Berkey said.

Thompson said he has requested to have gun permits revoked about three times in the past.

Parrish’s attorney, Brian Butler, said he will have to review the request before commenting.

Man shot in road rage incident describes events
The man shot during what police are calling a road rage incident is speaking out for the first time.

Wesley Mosier Jr. spoke exclusively to NewsChannel 32 Friday afternoon at the hospital. He was supposed to be released Friday, but his condition isn't improving.

In the meantime, he said he wants the public to know what really happened.

"I'd like to see them do to her just exactly what they would probably do to me if the shoe was on the other foot," he said. "No more, no less."

Mosier said he never knew Yalanda Parrish before last Tuesday. According to Mosier, he was testing out his new motorcycle when a woman in an SUV -- who police say is Parrish -- began tailgating him.

Mosier said the pavement was uneven and there were railroad tracks. He said after being tailgated for some time, he drove in between two cars to get away from her.

Mosier said when he got to a red light, he parked his motorcycle and began walking over to her car to find out why she was tailgating him.

"I just pecked on the window," he said. "It was partially down. And I says, 'Is there a reason why you're on my bumper so close?' And they didn't answer. And they put the window the rest of the way down. And she said, 'Yeah, it's your lucky day.' And I said, 'Why is that?' And she said, 'You're getting ready to get killed.' …I wonder how many years she took off my life."

NewsChannel 32 contacted Parrish, but she declined to comment.

Angry

This case needs very careful investigation - if it went down as the victim states, the shooter needs jailtime. I have had similar 'tail-gators' when I'm riding - it's an easy way for a rider to get killed. If something happens - some idiot pulls close in front of me making me have to suddenly slow down, or my tire blows out - she runs me over! Many "cagers" have NO regard for riders. We don't exist in their mental world - we are merely 'scenery' like the flowers and birds.
Add a short fuse and a convenient gun to the mix - BIG TROUBLE!
If she did this and doesn't get jail time, he needs to sue her for all she's worth.
And get his own CCW.

That is, IMO, one of the stupidest things I've heard a Cop say. I'd be willing to send him a copy of the US Constitution if he'd read it.
IT’S THE BILL OF RIGHTS, NOT THE BILL OF PRIVILEGES.

There is nothing else to cling to, besides the US constitution, that's even slightly worth a hill of beans.

Cling indeed, and the better the grip we have on it the better we'll all be...
