| Women turning to guns for peace of mind
Home is where we feel the safest. Or at least we should. When that security is stolen, it leaves many people, especially women, wondering how to fight back. Pepper spray is a popular option. But these days, more and more women are turning to something much stronger. More... |

Hmmm. I think that whether you are male or female, you could definitely benefit from carrying a gun. You could be that woman, in that situation. You could also be a man in that situation. Anymore, I don't think it matters who you are, what you look like, or where you might be... you could be attacked at anytime. Now... that leads me to this... which is slightly off-topic... "why can't EMS and fire professionals carry a gun?" There were/ are so many times that I wish I were permitted by law to have one... especially when there are two women on an ambulance crew... Sorry for the topic jump... Kate |

A paramedic I can understand, but I wouldn't want live ammo on me while I'm running around in a blazing fire, heh.

I wouldn't have a problem with ambulance crews packing. Seems like a bunch of their calls in NE OK are some knucklhead either high on meth, or a little bit charred cause his lab blew up.

Yeah, we won't tell any of my bosses this... but the last two places I worked in EMS, I wish I would have had a gun just for show... 7 times that I can count. I think the fact that someone could see it would maybe be enough to make them act like a decent human being!!!!!!!!

Not a bad idea. I once stopped to help a cabbie seriously cut during an attack by a fare gone bad - out in the county on a lonely dirtroad. I called 911, and the EMS truck arrived quickest, then the FD truck. I had to talk the deputy in to us, as he did NOT know the area! Took a full 20 minutes to get the deputy on scene - meanwhile, here we all are standing around with a lunatic on the loose. None of us were armed.More recently, I gave some handgun shooting training to a woman employed by the neighboring county Corrections Facility and needing to pass her quals. Her male co-workers did NOT train her and used intimidation to try to get her to quit - the 'good ol boys' did not like a woman working there. SO, part of my training for her was to get her to realize she did NOT need to put up with that nonsense. Her shooting greatly improved - I just hope she got past the headgames those knuckleheads were trying on her.

That's ridiculous! Thank God that she had someone that realized what her problem was. What is it with some people anyway??? Maybe they were afraid she could do their job better than they could... :0
