The former head of U.S. Customs and Border Protection called Monday for the U.S. to reinstitute the ban on popular semi-autos and take other measures to rein in the war between Mexico and its drug cartels.

More B/S to attempt to ban lawful semi-automatic weapons from honest U.S. Citizens. Most arms and munitions used by the drug cartels are full automatic weapons, grenades, rocket launchers, and explosives, none of which are for sale to the American general public.
Semi-automatic weapons do not need to be banned.

Maybe the first thing that needs to happen is for mexico to reduce official corruption. That would probably go alot farther than baning semi auto guns in the US.

Since when is it our responsibility to control what goes on in another country. Im sick of this "world policing" BS! How about they shoot each other over there with their MILITARY weapons, and we watch it on CNN! This has nothing to do with LEAGALLY owned weapons in the U.S. As a police officer I will refuse to violate the Constitution of the United States. Maybe the cartels will kill each other off over there and their citizens will stop trying to sneak over here.... sure, and me sh*t will smell like purple sherbert! Just sayin....

"While better border law enforcement and interdiction of drugs, weapons and cash will not alone defeat the drug cartels, these steps, as part of a larger strategy, can and will weaken them and make it easier for the Mexican government to destroy them - just as was done over a decade ago with the destruction of the Medellin and Cali cartels in Colombia," Mr. Bonner said
News Flash Mr. Bonner, weapons bans in Columbia and neighboring countries did nothing to curb the Cali and Medellin cartels. In fact, they fueled them as in the end only the cartels and the military possessed the weapons. The Columbian cartels were finally dismantled by the joint effort of the Columbian and US military. I don't see Mexico allowing the Marines to do the same thing as their government would stand to lose considerable revenue if the trafficing of drugs and illegal immigration were curtailed.
The cartels in Mexico were created from the remnants of the Columbian and Panama cartels and have been allowed to grow because members of the government, and the government itself in some cases, profit considerably from such illegal activities.

Worst part is they're cutting back on the border patrol personnel.

If the drug cartels have so much money, why would they have to piece meal a few firearms at a time from the U.S.? I am sure they can get firearms from other countries. It just doesn't make any sense to me.
