Oklahoma: Legislator proposes '2nd Amendment Weekends' for gun tax breaks

A state legislator from Norman says Oklahomans should be able to buy guns a few days each year without paying taxes on them.State Sen. John Sparks, a Democrat, is proposing legislation that he says would set up a "Second Amendment Weekend." If fellow lawmakers approve the measure and becomes law, all rifles, handguns and shotguns would be tax free on a few days a year.

Hey, it worked okay for South Carolina.

They had a Tax Break Weekend on firearms late in 2009. Gun stores did a land-office business. According to a friend of mine who lives on the NC - SC border, there were people coming to the gun stores in the towns near the northern border of South Carolina from as far away as Virginia. That's a minimum of a three hour drive.

If you live in a state that has high sales taxes and you were going to buy a new longarm anyway, and the state next door has a Tax Free Firearms Weekend, I can see the attraction. Mind you, I'd factor in the fuel costs before I decided whether or not to set out. If it would cost more in fuel than you'd save in tax on your firearms purchase, it might not make sense - unless the feeling that "I'm sticking it to The Man" is worth it to you.

Tax free weekends are a bastardization of our tax codes and should be done away with. The government should not be involved with trying to mold my shopping habbits with a manipulation of tax code.

Another reason why we shoud go to the fair tax.

It's pretty cool sounding, but why not 3 days a year no tax on comic books. or no tax on beef tuesdays.

would be pretty happy with a no DROS or crap 1 per 30 day handgun law.
