Still waiting for those wild west shootouts

In the early 1990's, when the push began in most states to allow citizens to be allowed to carry concealed weapons, those who opposed were fearful of a new wave of bloodbaths in the streets if this were to happen. To nearly everyone's surprise, except for those who were behind the effort, and with only two states still not offering any sort of private concealed carry, violent crime statistics per capita have slowed and in some cases reversed. Proponents of CCW point to the increase in concealed carry as the major reason, while others will say it is because of increased law enforcement, public awareness and general trends.

The only "Wild West-style shootouts" I've head about in the news are when two different groups of gangstas or similar vermin shoot it out for control of a 'territory' in which they conduct their illegal activities. This is a long, long way from citizens carrying legally who commit some sort of gun crime. The number of CCW permit holders who commit crimes is so vanishingly small, the FBI does not even attempt to track it.

What actual performance/experience has been is that when shall-issue CCW laws are passed, violent crime goes down across the board. Murder, rape, burglary, assault, the whole schmear; they all drop, dramatically and rapidly. The reason of course is that criminals as a class are cowards and much perfer unarmed victims to armed and trained citizens who can and will fight back.

Of course, the nanny-staters and leftists refuse to believe the FBI statistics on this subject. Because the facts don't conform with their ideology and worldview, they reject the facts as inaccurate and the studies which support the facts and concealed carry as flawed. Such morons have already made up their minds. Mere facts and actual experience won't convince them of the truth.

Sure they don't believe it. For the most part, it's the same people who are pushing for global warming legislation despite having no clear cut evidence to support their "facts".
As has been mentioned before, it isn't about climate control or about gun control, it's just plain control of the populace by those who would establish a ruling class.
The pure hypocrisy of the likes of Al Gore who has a personal "carbon footprint" the size of some rural communities preaching about man's influence on the climate or the numerous "anti-gun" individuals, like Sen. Feinstein, who own and carry firearms themselves should point this out.

From the same people who think the American people are too stupid to decide things for themselves such as healthcare, finances, individual rights, 2nd Amendment rights, etc.......

Who is responsible for my safety? Me

Cops are good guys but due to their mission they have to look at the big picture. They can't be in all places at all times. I was a CrimeStoppers Coordinator (took the calls) for six years and Cops generally respond in time to investigate the scene of the accident. Prevention is an individual responsibility. My wife and I take care of ourselves and our family. Hot burgleries (armed when people are home) are common in Europe. This is not true in the good old US of A. Too many people like my wife and I have guns and know how to use them. I have always felt free to carry without a permit since I am not obvious about it. You can carry legally in NC without a permit if it isn't concealed. It gets a little tricky though if someone claims that they have become "fearful for their life" upon seeing your weapon. It used to be a misdemeanor in NC to carry concealed without a permit and a felony if you were carrying with a permit and didn't inform law enforcement that you were carrying. I'm not sure if that is still the case.
I like the story about the lady who shot her 'wouldbe rapist attacker' six times. When asked by the Judge why she shot the guy six times, she said,"That's all the bullets that the gun holds". Needless to say, she was released.
Here's to Concealed Carry and reciprocity in all States!
