Rifle case that doesn't look like one?

I live in an apartment. I get the heebie-jeebies thinking that one of my neighbors with theft on his mind might see me leave the apartment with my gun case and decide to do a little firearms shopping at my home.

Browning makes a line of gun cases that look like briefcases, but they are too short for the average scoped rifle. They are made for take-down shotguns. I also have looked at cases by Winchester and even some specialty manufacturers who make gun cases that don't look like gun cases, but some of these are overly expensive or are used for guns commonly enough that they don't disguise the contents like you might think. I had a black rectangular case that I swore would fool everyone into thinking it was a case for a musical instrument. I had used the case all of twice when a neighbor came up to me and said, "What kind of shotgun is that?!"

Can anybody suggest a manufacturer of rifle cases or specialty cases that will hold at least one scoped rifle and not look like a gun case?

Length?

Believe it or not, Auto Ordnance actually makes a violin case (with padding inside) for your Tommy Gun.

But...is a guitar case long enough (44-46" rifle length) for the average scoped rifle?

Use a solid golf bag carrier and just put your gun in a soft case and put it inside. Now they will ask what your handicap is!

Those new fold-up camp chairs come in a thin bag that will fit a rifle or shotgun. There's no padding to protect the gun, but it could be wrapped in a blanket, or an ordinary rifle case might fit right inside the chair bag.
With a name like "Eddie Bauer" or "Nike" on the outside, no one would suspect a gun inside.
These make a good bag for carrying 3-4 fishing rods as well. Plenty cheap.

Kinda hard to justify $325 for a gun case, but it looks quality

I'd say impossible.
That is a very handsome gun case, but $325 for molded plastic? Ha!
Isnot much different from this Contico Traveling Golf Case
http://www.walmart.com/catalog/produ...%3A4125%3A5214
and it costs only $30

A friend of mine that has this same problem just got a slender cardboard box from his work, dont know what came in it, and just slides his rifle and soft case into it. I wonder if his neighbors are not just a little curious about him coming and going with a long slender box under his arm all the time, but it makes him feel a little better.
As for the $325.00 gun case, I would hate for anyone to see with that and know what it cost. Dont want any one to think I am that stupid. But if you are willing to put up with anything that bulky just get a piece of P V C pipe of appropriate size and length and two end caps. Glue one cap on and leave the other loose. Then just use your soft case for padding. You could even attach a handle or straps on it if you wanted. Just as ugly but alot cheeper.

Just measured a standard acustic guitar case and it is ~ 44". Could probaly find one longer though.

PITA,
If your that worried about your neighbors, what makes you think they wouldn't try to steal your "guitar". This is easy .......MOVE!!! I of course don't know your situation, but I wouldn't live where I couldn't trust my neighbors.

Chances are, anything, briefcase, golf bag, anything, is going to be gone if someone comes in your house. My house is protected by a pitbul, and someone is always at my place, my brother or me, both own .45's for intrustions, and if gets heavy, we got the SKS's with 30 round mags loaded up, and ammo cans scattered about :-)

Maybe you'll even find a present behind the couch, fridgerator, even if I get stuck on the toliet, el cheapo pistol is ready :-)

I got the same concern, I do trust my neighbors, but I don't like to let everyone know that I got guns in my Apt., someone can coment to another person (not so honest) that his neighbor has guns in the Apt. and the story can go on and on and maybe some third party may decide to get them.

Ok, my stock is well secured, but with time enough you can break into anything, so I don't show my guns around.

I found an Electric Bass case that have 2 compartments for instruments, and with the same shape as the Bass, also have a couple of outside pockets and wheels.

I may be buying it this christmas as my own gift.

I think that using some towels as wraping, I can acomodate probably 3 long guns inside it, maybe 4 and the rolling feature, makes it a very good chioce for hauling around those heavy gun packs that I make for a day at the range.
