I suppose I'm in the minority here; I carried a service L1A1 for about 7 years and hated it; don't get me wrong, it never let me down but it was loose and rattly and I couldn't hit jack chit at more that about 250-300 metres with it. Whoever dreamed of building a rifle with the sights on different sides of a hinge.Duh!!!
I also did some service in Africa where I used an original dutch built AR10 which in my opinion was a thousand times better than the FAL (apart from the mags).

Best regards,
A FAL hater!

Hi Guys.
I carried the FN/FAL for 5 years and used it a fair ammount. I allso used the 303 Bren & its 7.62 conversion. The GPMG (MAG). As well as the AK, RPD etc. I allways came back to my FN perhaps I was fortunate but if I did my bit I was able to put 5 shots into an inch. In my opinion she was (is?) Still she Queen of infantry rifles. The only way I was ever able to get reasonable close range full auto performance was to tuck the but into the crook of my elbow ejection port facing the sky and holding the fore grip just short of the gas regulater. Fun but not to practicle.
Just a note of caution watch those carry handles, They can cause an empty to fly back and hit you in the eye. We had ours removed to stop that and to prevent slopy carry.
Be safe.

Does anybody have a good clean FAL kit they would be interested in selling or know any vendors online who might have some?

Don't know why you had a problem on full auto. I can put a 3 - 4 rd burst into about a foot circle at 100 yds. I normaly shoot 2 - 3 rd bursts as I find it more effective and a mag lasts longer.
Was just out shooting mine Sat.
Took my Bren Mk I, but forgot to put the 2 bbls in the truck so didn't get to shoot it.

Hj Sarge.
I bow to a better man.
However in the places I tended to wonder, acurate rappid fire and double taps, worked for me, ammo lasted longer that way. If we neaded full auto that is where the GPMG and Brens came in.We tended to have a bren in the early days then the GPMG in every 4 man stick. But the full auto was nice to have Just in case.
I loved the bren But the mag position and its narrow cross section tended to make it a "Ģ"$%$Ģ swine to cary on extended patrols. I carried the bren in Mopani scrub and other places, and dont ever recall fealing out gunned by the RPD and AK. She talked they listened and the same goes for the FN/FAL
Be safe.

Ahhh, but that's why they put a selector switch on it! You used what was necessary. On FA I can consistantly shoot 3 rd bursts and quite often 2. If I shot it a lot more that would get down to 2 all the time. Unfortunately I only shoot it 4 or 5 times a year. It is a beautiful handling rifle in all respects. Some have said they don't like the sights, but I have no problem with them. Reminds me of shooting my Thompson, or early Carbine.

I have the civil version of FAL made here in Argentina, and it is similar to the British L1A1, it is semiauto, and donīt launch grenades, the military version do it, but both are nice rifles, and like me more than the M-16, but when I made the military service with the FAL, was very heavy to hold and carry it all day...
The Argentine version are made well, but the better it is the finish bore barrel that shine like a mirror, I think it is the better barrel that i never had in a gun...
sorry my english..........

Took a bunch of ruskie stuff out last weekend for the niece & nephew to shoot along with the FAL for me.
Unfortunately I forgot to add some Nato ammo to the ammo box so only had 20 rds
Shot it all in 10 2 rd bursts. Had intended to shoot 3 rds, but it just worked so good on 2 rounders that I shot the magazine that way. Damm, they are fun!!!
