Springfield version of a FAL?

I was at the gun shop today instead of doing real police work and I saw a Springfield Armory that looked like an FN FAL. The price was nice on it and I am thinking about getting it. It was about $850 instead of the grand plus for an FN FAL. It had OD green furniture on it etc.

Anybody know anything about them? I didn't know where to put this since I didn't se a Springfield forum at a glance.

I think Springfield's model is SAR4800. I passed on a pre-ban for $1200 five or six years ago. $850 sounds real good.

I would appear to be a little smaller in size then an FN-FAL just eyeballing it.

Matt, the Springfield FAL's were imported in the late '80's and early '90's.

The pre-ban version is the SA 48.

The post-ban version is the SA 4800, it has an awful thumbhole stock.

The pre-ban versions are desirable and go for $1,200 to 1,400

The post-bans go from anywhere around $600 to 800

If you are truly finding an SA 48 pre-ban for that price GRAB IT! They are one of the best pre-ban FAL's

I don't think it's a preban. But if they go from 600-800 I think I'll shop around a bit before I decide to buy one for 850$

You CAN always replace the factory furniture with any US made furniture you like. OR...you could get an Imbel kit, a reciever, and have it built.
