Goose52 - No.

It is hard to describe it, but the mount is made up of 2 dovetailed steel bars, one is attached in the dovetail of the receiver. The other dovetailed bar is attached to the first one by allen screws, forming a sort of an "X", or "><". Then there is an upper extrusion of aluminum made of a distorted "F" shape (with the "F" tilted back (looking up)) which has the scope mounted to it (the scope fitting part way into the "F" mouth, with a "U" shaped clamp around the scope body, and two screws going through the "U" and the "F" to secure the scope body. There is a lower "L" shaped aluminum extrusion which bolts to the upper extrusion (I haven't taken it off to see where the screws go yet) to secure the "L" and "F" shaped extrusions to the dovetailed outer bar.

Oh well, it was a thought.

Goose52 - Now, I need to find a 7 x 57mm magazine and follower to install, or an 8 x 57mm magazine to experiment with.

Goose52 - Actually, I just pulled the scope mount apart, and I find that the 2 dovetailed bars that attach to the receiver, are really just one "V" or double "V" bar. At the ends of the double "V" bar are slots cut, so that 2 Allen screws can be tightened to prevent movement of the mount in the dovetail. One dovetailed side matches the dovetails cut into the receiver, and the other dovetailed side is where the aluminum extrusions are secured.

The double "V" bar has two locating notches that the screws go through to screw the the lower "L" extrusion to the upper "F" extrusion. The double "V" bar also has a notch cut into it about even with the middle of the radius on the left receiver side, with a roll pin driven into it, so there must be more to this than meets the eye, so I pulled it apart a little further, to find that the rolled pin extends down to the bottom of the double "V" bar only, so it must be just a locator or tensioner.

If it is a toolroom sight mount, then it was quite well done, as the aluminum extrusions are black anodized, and the steel double "V" bar is in a black oxide finish. There are no names on it so I am very sure it is not a commercially available mount, unless this is a prototype.

I will try to get some pictures of it to you in a couple of days, through the e:Mail.

Goose52 - The magazine, spring and follower have been found, and now I only need the 3 lock screws for the trigger housing attachment screws.

I can take pictures of it now, but how do I get pictures to you? I can be reached on e:Mail at: <thamesde@netscape.net>

Gyrene - You can always get me at fn49fan@earthlink.net

Thanks for taking the time to take the pics.

Speaking of "non-commercial" scope mounts, did you see the mount on the rifle in this auction? Check out: http://www.gunbroker.com/auction/Vie...p?Item=5199373

Goose52 - I looked at the "non-commercial" scope mount as you suggested, and the mount is probably stable, but the guy butchered the stock. Is his asking price (Buy it now for $450.00) too much, what with a butchered stock? A nice looking stock like that is hard to find, and my guess is that he reduced the value by the price of a nice equivalent stock (possibly as much as $150.00 to $200.00). What is with the strange slope of the butt, maybe it is an optical illusion. It looks strange to me.

The mount on my Vinny in no way does damage to either the metal or the wood, unless scuff marks on the metal, which would occur with an FN-49 Factory scope mount, qualify as damage. I'm not even sure that there are scuff marks, as I didn't really want to remove it (YET). I have a couple of pictures, and now that I have your e:Mail I can send them to you. I have to move them from the camera into the computer, not to worry the camera a Sony uses the memory stick, and I have a memory stick port on my computer.

What is the score on your survey now, or have you not totalled it up lately?

I did notice how the stock on that rifle had been relieved to take the mount . . .

I'm presently stalled at 505 rifles. It seems that I've got about all the FN-49 owners that want to contribute on the 14 different boards on which I've posted the survey. Now, I only get one or two new rifles a week as new people join the different boards and come across the survey.

Half of the rifles between 400 and 500 actually didn't come from board member contributions but instead I got those from correspondence and web surfing with musuems around the world.

My next goal of 600 rifles will take quite a while to achieve.
