L1A1 Rear Sight

Guys,
Is there anyone out there who can explain to me how to adjust an L1A1 rear sight. The only way I can raise and lower the sight is to use a small brass mallet, and gently tap the sight up and down the ramp. I have pushed the sight up, down, and sideways. It doesn't move unless I use the mallet. It would seem to me it should be pushed from the opposite side of the teeth on the ramp.

Indy, there is a detent ball and spring in the right side. If you notice there is a round protrusion about 5mm in diameter that sticks out about 5mm. The spring and ball are inside there. Lay the rifle over on the right side and flood the sight area with Break Free - the idea being to try to fill up the ball and spring cup. Let it soak for a while then try to work it back and forth. They can get really stuck sometimes but if you work at it with the Break Free there's a good chance it will loosen up with out having to disassemble the ramp. You could also remove one of the windage screws and pull the sight off of one side and soak it in Break Free. If you decide to do that, watch out for the small curved spring that provides the detent action for the windage screws so it doesn't jump out and become MIA.
