| Looking for Barrel Vise for FAL/L1A1 build Hey, guys. I've accumulated a couple of kits, a couple working L1A1s, and now want to do a build myself. I'm going to lean primarlily on the AGI Armorer's DVD for timing and headspacing. I have a receiver wrench, but no barrel vise. Does anyone have one for sale, or know where I can get one (maybe with interchangeable inserts for other rifles, too?). For bonus points, where's the best deal for a set of locking shoulders? Please advise. Thanx! Last edited by Gigabit; 08-18-2007 at 08:05 PM. |

| Senior Member ![]() | Hey Gig, welcome to G&G. For a barrel vise, try Brownells - World's Largest Supplier of Firearm Accessories, Gun Parts and Gunsmithing Tools or MidwayUSA - Shooting Supplies, Reloading, Gun Parts, Ammunition, Rifle Scopes & Airguns .

| GunThings.com, Military Small Arms Parts Headquarters!*&!@#% FNFAL, L1A1, 1919, AK, Galil will have the locking shoulder you need. A set, I'm not sure. Just get your barrel timed, check headspace and get the one you need. You don't really need an entire set.

| Senior Member ![]() | There is a guage you need for the locking shoulder, it is a stepped rod that inserts in the hole to get the measurement and be able to order the proper locking shoulder. My FAL barrel had flats on the chamber area so a large tight fitting wrench was all I used with the receiver clamped in a fixture in a vise. Rich

| Lead inserts, steel vs. aluminum, etc. Any opinions out there on steel vs. aluminum, vises that require lead inserts, etc.? Gunthings has a vise at a good price (about $83 at the present) that can be used on various barrels (see: FNFAL & L1A1 Accesssories, Tools, Videos). Or, would anyone recommend Brownell's vise system, which has interchangeable inserts, both steel and aluminum (quite a bit more costly, though). |
