DSA FALs

I've recently begun to notice them to a greater extent, and realize how nice their variety is. Prices are pretty brutal though, ie can't afford till I have that high paying engineering job and have paid off a morgtage and bought my dream truck and all.

But I wonder what opinions there are on the worth of the different varieties. I'm eyeing the ones on both ends of the spectrum: The 16" stainless carbine and the 24" (or is it 26") heavy barreled target version.

Specific questions:
1.) Is the stainless carbine really as durable and beautiful as it looks? And is it all stainless, or just the barrel, receiver, and cover?

2.) Is the long, heavy barreled version competetively accurate for the price, compared to, say, the AR-10?

3.) And how do these models compare to the base DSA FAL that can probably be had for under $1k?

I might develop an addiction here, I also want two cheaper FALs to play with.

I tell ya G3, the DSA's are the cadillacs! These are not kit guns, they're brand new from the ground (reciever) up. The only other way to spend any more money and get as good a rifle, only prettier is to check out Arizona Response Systems. Unless things have changes however, the FAL God there builds all of his stuff on DSA recievers and pretty exclusivly uses DSA parts. Any of the Century L1's I have ever fixed I have used a fair amount of DSA parts. DSA is simply really good at what they do and they stand behind their work 100%. I'm still deciding on the extra money for the fat barrel. I've made the plunge already and to tell you the truth I have an old Century L1A1 skinny barrel that will shoot right there with it at 300 yds. Sure the group is a bit more spread out of the L1 but that thing has had a bunch-o-ammo through it? One thing is for sure, when you flop that fat barrel out on the bench it gets double takes from all sides! That heavy barrel and floating hand guard give it a rather hunky look! I'm pretty partial to DSA's standard rifle with the "X" series stock on it, that's a nice looking FAL!

G3, I listed the suppliers because you said " I also want two cheaper FALs to play with." I'd say $350.00 for an FAL is cheap, and it's even all Imbel.

So, it's looking like luckyboy's looking for a front sight for his L1A1. Now, is this one of those things that has to be "approved" by the Secretary of Defense to ship out of the country, like a lot of our optics?... or is he going to just be able to order one and have to pay shipping? Also, I'm guessing if we can find him one for sale in the Netherlands, that would be a better/easier/cheaper route.

I'm looking and trying to decide between the following rifles in 308. DPMS, DSA, and the Springfield M1a. I know I should fire one of each to decide for myself, but that ain't possable. I am looking for the most accurate, less recoil and the one which has less problems. Any thoughts, or comments?

My FAL with DSA receiver, has less recoil than did any M14/M1A that I have fired, to include real Uncle Sam issued M14 rifles that I carried in the early 1960s. Probably there are more accuracy options available with the M1A, because for a short while the M1A was the rifle of choice for military competition shooters. I did own an M21 which threw 308 bullets better than has any other 308 shooter before or since. That said, I like my FALs.
