Used them in the army in South Africa. Good weapon, though it would depend on where this one was made. You got one made in Belguim, buy it and don't look back. One in good shape and made by Fabrique National is worth a great deal more. I saw one in a gunshop near Nastyville a couple of weeks ago going for $1195.00
The South African-made ones are good, but I don't know about the receivers. They had full-auto capability, so the receivers on those are not original. As far as the weapon being uncomforable when shooting offhand, I disagree, but I'm used to shooting rifles a little on the heavy side, what with the WWII milsurp addiction ![]()

Be that as it may. I have always found the FAL (R1 we called them) to be a good shooting, accurate weapon, and the only reason that I don't have one is because I find myself temporarily financially embarrassed.

You can get them in inch pattern or metric pattern. FNFAL.com / The FAL Files can give you a ton of info on FALS.
$500.00 is a good price look to see if it's a Franken-FAL (inch parts mixed with metric parts). If it has and Imbel reciver then jump on it! Imbel is the best you can get except for Fabrique National that is. If you find a Fabrique National for $500.00 you need to let me know who the MORON that is selling it is

Personally I would jump on it!!!! If it needs work it is still worth $500.00 you can get parts easily enough. Make sure you check the head space, or have a gunsmith do it for you. But get it. Imbels are very good in reguards to FN/FAL.

For 500 bucks ill take it, if you dont want it
![]() Of course for 500 bucks might be something wrong with it and hes trying to rip ya off so i would say shoot it before you buy it. If it operates well then no doubt about it buy it. |

Check the manufacturer of the receiver. Rifles made by FN or FN licensed companies are good rifles. Recivers made in Brazil, Argintina, and Belgium plus the U.S. companies of DSA or Enterprise are good. Stay away from rifles useing Hesse Arms, Century Arms ( Made In USA ) Inch pattern and the aluminum receivers. Check this gunsmtih for information on FAL rifles.
