The High Power, P-35, enjoyed the record of the most frequently used military pistol by more countries than any other up until Glock came along, second was/is the 1911. It is an excellent 9mm designed by John Moses Browning himself in 1935 to be an improvement on the 1911. Wish it came in .45 cal. I have had several and love them but my all time favorite 9mm is the Steyr GB, designed to replace the Austrian military pistol back in the 80's but beat out by Glock. The High Power was the first high magazine capacity auto pistol and can hold it's own even after all these years. It's one of the classics. |

Glock used by more countries military then the Hi-Power? Last I knew about 70 different countries used the Hi-Power. I don't know how many are using the Glock but would be very surprised if it even came close to the Hi-Power.

The P-35 is, IMHO, a fine pistol. I'm biased, because it was the last that I had before the UK goverment decided that we couldn't have pistols any more. However.... whilst the design was, initially, that of JMB's attempt to design a new pistol without infringing the patents relating to the 1911, which he had sold to Colt, the final design contained a good deal contributed by Dieydonne Saive, of the Fabrique National organisation. We may surmise this from the fact that JMB died in 1926, the patents on the Colt expired in '28, and elements that would have infringed upon them are included in the final design. Therefore it is reasonable to believe that the design was finalised after JMB's death. Ironically, the French army, which had instigated the project, never acepted the pistol, opting instead for the Model 35. Instead the Belgium Army became the first to adopt the new P-35. I still have the case of the last round I was permitted by law to fire from my pistol. I keep it on my keyring to remind me of what can happen. |

I've carried an HP for 40 years, including in combat. There is not another pistol in the world that I would accept in its place!!! Some of the modern day pistols are good, possibly as good, but I would not consider trading! Sarge
