My $.02: Basically, any scope will work. I had a 3-9x40 on my CETME for a while and it worked great. I knew a guy who put a 4-16x50 on it and used it reasonably well, though operating the charging handle was a *****. A fixed 4x scope should do you just fine. |

Haven't put a scope on mine yet, due to not being able to work the Century Monkey kinks out of it yet so that it ejects/feeds reliably. Once I get that figured out, then I'll start worrying about how accurate I am with it and thinking about a scope. Heh.

Good luck with it. I had to break mine in a bit, but once I got past that, it's been a blast. The muzzle-blast-enhancer that Century installed is amazing. We actually rate every other rifle in comparison to it. The CETME is still the reigning champ, though the M38/M44 mosins are close. Last edited by Shenlung; 06-04-2007 at 06:35 PM. | |

Mine wears an inexpensive Chinese-made 6X40 with the "German Reticle" - a pointed bottom post and two side posts. I intended it as a stopgap for something better, but it has worked so well, I kept it. Fast target acquisition, and the pointed post allows good precision. I like it. Don't need more magnification on a battle rifle, IMHO. A fixed-mag scope is more rugged, with less to go wrong.

Not to sidetrack this thread, but how did you mount the scope on your CETME? I ask because the guy I bought mine from had a local smith tack weld a picatinny rail onto the top of the receiver. He did a beautiful job on the weld and refinish, but placement is crap. Also interferes with the open sights. I plan to take it off this summer, but would like the option to re-scope it. Just curious what others have done to put glass on these. |

Shenlung, usually it involves getting some form of STANAG mount. There are the quick-release clamp type and the screw-tighten clamp type. I've heard good and bad of both from differing manufacturers. This Tapco mount is one I've looked at, but I don't know if it's any good: H&K AND CETME TACTICAL DUAL RAIL SCOPE MOUNT WITH STANAG DIMENSIONS - NEW

Gotcha. Stanag was the word that was escaping me. I'll have to give that a try this summer once I get rid of that rail. Thankfully, the guy only tacked the corners, so with a dremel and some file work, I should be back to normal in no time. Might even get some WECSOG points to boot Thanks! |

I'm glad we could help Shenlung. Stick around, the G3/CETME forums get kinda lonely sometimes.

My CETME is probably one of the most entertaining rifles in my collection. We call it the "open range" rifle--the muzzle blast on it is tremendous. It usually only takes 2-3 mags before everyone else at the range (who isn't into milsurp) clears out.

Funny you should say that. I actually shoot mine at a 25 yard indoor pistol range that allows the members to shoot rifles on the 'big bore' range (Unfortunately that's changing as of Jan. 1, 2008 due to morons damaging the range). With the small stalls and 'blinders' to stop casings from hitting your neighbor, that blast can be quite a kick! Sure makes my MN 91/30 sound like a 9x19mm; doesn't kick nearly as hard though. Hehehe.

Wow.....the thought of a CETME going off indoors is nigh frightening. Even with hearing protection. You got that right--the blast makes the 91/30 seem tame by comparison until you start comparing recoil. Those Mosins pack a punch! |

My Spanish Lady and her glasses . . . http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2003-...amo-detail.jpg It's amazing what can be done with a $12 Weaver rail from WallyMart (for the Rem M70), extra tall Weaver rings off ebay, and a little JB Weld. This mount has lasted for three years, many range visits and over 600 rounds fired. And I can use the iron sights with scope on. What can I say, I'm a cheap SOB . . .

I go by the "Three Hundred Rounds" rule on break-in. Yes, it will always eat brass - it's the nature of the beast. Though, I have seen a rubber "Brass deflector" that mounts behind the ejection port to prevent the damage to the brass. Ask over on Gunboards.com's CETME forum - someone there should know where to get 'em!

If it's unfired (read: new production barrel), you'll need to follow your favorite barrel break-in procedure. Just be sure not to overheat the barrel during this process. Since most CAI Cetme's are built off demil'd rifles, you shouldn't need to worry about breaking it in. I can't speak for everyone, but my Cetme is terribly hard on brass. It generally pitches it at high speed about 25 feet right and 5 feet forward of where I'm standing. The ejection itself dents the case mouth and then it usually bounces off something, causing further abuse. If you reload, don't expect long life out of your brass, you might get lucky, but better to expect the worst and hope for the best. |
