First Big Mater Harvest

http://imgur.com/a/1n31i

Harvested over 2 days, more will be red and ready today. I had gotten one Goliath previously, but only the one.

I've been getting a LOT of green tomatoes (Alabama boy, of course gran'ma taught me to make fried maters!), but this is the first harvest of red tomatoes.

Red ripe Romas, and green Big Boys and Goliaths. I'm going to make some green tomato relish and I use the greens in sauteed mixed veggies, and of course I did this. Not quite like granny used to make (no breading) but they are GREAT as long as you don't let them go cold.

Use very little oil in a non-stick pan over medium heat and cook them a little more than you should, they are better if they are a little dry.

I wish we could grow tomatoes like those here. But our property is so shady, we can't grow any fruits or vegetables. We've tried.

I've had to do a lot of pruning of unruly plants in the unattended lots around me.

I also said out loud once, "Lord, those 2 trees are killing my garden, if you don't do something about them, I'll have to."

April 27th tornadoes last year took them out about a week later.

So, I take opportunities to thank God publicly.

Beautiful garden Barry.

Let me say, "Lord, my mother-in-law really gets on my nerves sometimes. If you don't do something......"

Lets see if Barry's plan works!?

I should mention that 200 people died in those tornadoes and I lost power for 4 days, but my garden gets pretty good sun now!

There are still 2 trees that shade me a little, but I think I can handle those on my own.

Barry you are doing great with the garden. I like those Roma,s for sauces and salads. Everything looks nice and healthy. By the way Barry did you ever get those coons or squirrels that ruined your corn crop. I didnt read about if you got the critter.
