| TERRIBLE PLANTING SEASON
Guys this has got to be one of the worst springs for getting my vegetables out that I can remember! My plants I started from seed this Feb & Mar are back on the enclosed front porch. Its been either major rain and storms or now high winds! I got a good round of my seeds planted (between horrific weather) but am worried since the ground has been inundated with water, and now the high winds and sunshine have made a terra cotta like crust on the soil surface with large cracks developing! I may just finish my front porch off to grow inside year round and forget about it! LOL aint gardening grand!!!! LOL Ahhh in a month or two it will be worth all the work and heart burn its causing I suppose! hope everyone elses gardening is going easier than mine!

| Sorry to hear you are having trouble
May need to start lots of things indoor then transplant outside later in June or possibly the first part of July. Weather problems can be a bummer. I know because I live in the Texas Panhandle where pretty much each spring hasn't much relation to the previous spring. |

It's not quite so bad up here a bit North of you Cross Hair, though we've had some gullywashers here in the last week. The gardens aren't doing so bad but I sure have heard the farmers cussing. I saw ducks in my park the other day. Mallards! It blew me away, thought I'd seen it all. I've seen some wierd stuff in that park, one time I even thought I saw a ninja. But mallards? I swear.

Farmers here are cursing the ducks, the corn that actually got planted is underwater but would be ok if the ducks werent floating around the field eating the corn now! Its been nice this week, but since my property is out the wind is still wreaking havoc on everything. I am going to start a few more trays of leftover odd and end seeds tomorrow. It will all work out, it does every year LOL TCLU, did you get a garden in this year? I am doing a bunch of tomatos in 2 liter bottles, more novelty than anything, but if you want one I am making extras for friends and family and your more than welcome to one or two!

I feel your pain Cross Hair. Working between storms, etc I have managed to get most of my garden out. Green beans are about the only thing I don't have out that I am going to plant. I have a few plants that I started from seed that haven't gone in the ground yet because they aren't quite big enough due to the seed coming late. They may end up being indoor plants, we'll see. Hope your fortune improves!

The news said we've had the wettest Spring in 13 years. Our garden has been a struggle too.

My garden hasn't struggled too much, but we are already about 3" short of rain fall for the spring. Even my front lawn is already starting to see the effects. I hope we make up this rain short fall soon. If not, I can see Central Ohio having a drought this summer |

One of my neighbors has a garden that is turning out to be pretty amazing, some of his plants already had quarter sized peppers and tomatos last weekend! His brother has cattle so I am assuming he's been plenty liberal with the nitrogen!

The offer still stands tclu! I got about 10 more left hanging around our patio. The wife told me that we look trashey with a bunch of tomato plants growing upside down in empty mt dew bottles! LOL but I had to point out the old pick up that isnt running parked next to one of the out buildings and the refridgerator next to the garage. Its just a good thing that our driveway is 200yds off the main road or everyone would know! LOL I am starting to come around to some hit and miss results this sad season! My zuchini is growing like mad! Many slow performers are turning around so I am feeling optimistic about this season after all! I was close to switching to indoor growing at one point this spring! LOL Doggone rabbits went berserk and killed most all of my pepper plants. Didnt even eat all of them just cut row after row and left the plant laying there!!!! I declared WAR. unfortunately so far the rabbits are ahead but I keep loaded .22's at easy access on three sides of the house... I will fight the good fight without resorting to chemical, biological or nuclear war no matter how tempting nuking them seems some days !!!! LOL

Cross Hair are you sure you don't have a Cut Worm(s) in your garden ? While here at Gun and Game this morning I saw my neighbor drive through my back yard on his Ford tractor. He had the Big Tiller that works off the power take off attached to it...He went and rebroke up my garden spot LOL I guess he was bored LOL. Anyway I went out to watch him and when he finished he ask's arnt you gonna plant anything ? ? ? I said Nope not this year LOL I thanked him for turning under the grass. A.H

Aside from slow starts due to the seed companies being behind, our growing season is going great this year. Everything has been doing very well so far. I thought I had everything planted until we went to Home Depot to pick up some more okra seeds on Saturday. I kept seeing new things I wanted to try and ended up coming home with about a dozen more plants, haha. Oh well, something to keep me busy I guess. My wife's herbs are absolutely out of control. She has been busy drying them and getting them ready for winter. I was actually thinking about trying the indoor growing this winter with some of the starts that we have that weren't quite big enough to put out in the garden. We put them in bigger pots and have them on the front porch right now. Since the spare bedroom has now been converted into a nursery I just need to figure where to put my indoor growing operation. Would it be wrong to put the baby in the garage and bring the plants inside where I can control the temperature and climate?

LOL... I've had to wait for a kid to move out, then my father in law moved in for awhile, and now I have mine in the corner behind my home gym equipment... making the room useless to use any exercise equipment! I am moving mine out to the front porch as soon as I get it finished completely in and run some duct work. I have contemplated putting a setup out in the garage for quite some time actually. If you have a large garage like mine it wouldnt be much to build a nice little grow room in it. Actually you only need space not much bigger than a large wardrobe closet. I have seen where folks simply put aquarium heaters in the reservoirs for the hydroponic system and the heat that the light gives off usually keeps even a non heated garage grow room at a good temperature. Another benefit I like is that you dont have that "garden" smell from alot of plants through your house.... I would like it actually... the wife does not as much! If ya' ever decide to build a system just let me know and I can tell you all about building one pretty cheap that works just as good as the expensive systems in stores and catalogs.
