Brings satisfaction to the mind and teaches how to challenge your skills to get smaller and smaller groups. Shotguns tend to be abusive to the user with the noise, blast, and recoil. Handguns tend to take a bit more control to hit your target. Make it a nice and pleasant event. Then get them into shooting silloettes Very satisfactory! Have fun with this.

| Senior Member ![]() | Starting from nothing? I would get a carbine first. Lever action with a revolver cartridge. .44 or .357 mag. Most likely the latter.

| Rifle - AK. Cheap, good priced ammo, never jams, low maintenance, and cheap mags. |

| For "only gun", I'd still go with the shotgun. Considering a worst-case scenario if the UberLibs gain control, and only grudgingly allow us one gun, period. Still the most versatile, and deadly for defensive use. Can be a good tool to 'acquire' better arms when the time is right. For "first gun", still the shotgun. Hunting, defense, sporting use - it's the most versatile gun going! Then you can get the handguns and rifles afterwards. Start specializng.
