| What does it take to make a gun "your own"? A tendency of we with many guns is to acquire guns that we never really connect with. We have our favorites that we fire a lot, and get really good with; whose ammo tastes we know well, whose ballistics we are well familiar with. And then there are those we have for bragging rights, or cause they look cool, or that we like to think we'll fire more than we will, or we totally love, but just don't make it to the top of the list of what to take to the range. I had a Marlin Camp 45 once. It jammed every other mag I ever used in it, no one thought it was legal to sell me ammo for it, and I never really made any good shots with it. Sold it and never looked back. In a sense it was never mine. Also had a Saiga 20. Great shotgun. And when I picked it up, I thought of a kid I know and thought "Boy will he love to try this." But when my room was as cluttered as it was with so many different types of ammo, and when the cool factor of the detachable mag AK shotgun wore off, I decided that since I really had all the bases covered with other guns, and had serious project ambitions ahead (which I'm currently following through on), this one should go. And luckily for the kid, his dad loved it too and bought it for his use. In a sense it was his as soon as I saw how happy he was to shoot it and hunt pests with it. Just had to wait till his birthday. Other guns of mine I'm gradually getting to know better. It doesn't help being a student whose friends with shooting ranges live an hour way in opposite directions. Others I'm very comfortable with, and would never sell for anything, like my carry piece, my AK, my 10/22, and my M590 shotgun. A couple I need for my livelihood as I use them to model accessories I'm about to produce. So what to you think makes a gun "yours", and which of your guns have that honor most of all?

| The one main thing that makes me smile from ear to ear is when I find a gun (mostly a rifle) that has such accuracy that it even outdoes my high expectation and allows me to shoot like I haven't done since my earlier youth. Those four guns that I have are both Springfield Remington 1903A3s and both Swedish M96 mausers.

| I'm gonna have to pick me up a Swede some day. For some reason, I want a 1917 much more than a 1903.

|  I'm with Dale. I am most partial to a gun that proves itself to be very accurate in my hands. The best gun is the one which, when you pick it up and hold it, speaks to you. It's like something spiritual. You know it's a great gun when you touch it. Then when you shoot a super tight group, you know - "Yowza! This is MY gun!" | I know what you mean, for some reason I really like my sks, not sexually mind you I'm just really good with it. Other people shoot it and they complain of its lack of accuracy and length of pull (stock), after they hand it back I will easily out shoot them. for some strange reason I like the short stock. :jet: |
