Troubles with flinching

I have never been impressed with my ability to shoot accurately with a pistol so I went to the range last night and had friend watch me as I shoot my Xd40. He said that I am definately flinching right before the gun fires. I consiously try to not flinch and have done dry fire drills with a penny on the front sight, but it hasn't helped so far. What would you guys suggest, should I have a friend load my mags wiht a couple snap caps mixed in, or practice with a low/non-existant recoil pistol.. ie .22lr (this would also give me an excuse to get Sig's new Mosquito) What do you guys think?

22's do help -- when I am doing my marksman ship drills before a hunting season I shoot tons of 22's to get ready for the big calibers -- this way the principles are the same and you don't have to take the heavy recoil 4 or 500 times. Plus when you fire your normal caliber don't anticipate the firing but condition yourself to it being a suprise or just a mechanical function. Many people flinch because they anticipate the shot.

Or you could just shoot handguns more. I have never really been much of a handgun guy, I own a few, and I shoot those badly. But lately I have been taking at least one to the range every time I go and I shoot it. Having done this for the last year or so, I recently noticed that I was shooting better with it, I was not flinching anymore.
