Cleaning Crud Off Cylinder

What do you use to clean the powder off the front of the cylinder? I'm not having any luck!

If you are referring to the black flash rings, I've used both FLITZ polish and Remington's "Lead Out" with good success. They make your revolver cylinder look almost new!

This link may help... apparently the "Lead Out" product is no longer offered by Remington... bummer.

"black flash rings"

Yep, thats exactly what I'm talking about. I burned some powder today and decided to give the thing a good polishing afterwards.

I suppose this same stuff could be used to clean the residue around barrel porting as well?

Is the gun stainless? i use a stainless steel polishing cloth made by a company called adco.(addco?) they call it a lead wipe or something. this treated material removes carbon and lead very quickly unfortunately it will remove bluing as well.

Flitz is a good product for getting the front of the cylinder clean. It's mostly lead (not burnt powder) that makes the mess there, so Hoppe's and other bore-cleaners don't work well. Flitz will clean it up quick (but not cheap).

Thanks everyone!

I found a product today called Lead Away. Its made by a company called Kleen-Bore, Inc. Sounds a lot like what you've been describing. It is a cloth designed to wipe away lead and carbon build-up. Salesman told me to cut off a bit and wipe away the build-up. And to keep the unused portion in a Zip-Loc bag.
