| Wheelies wear loose too quick&easily In one year, back in the early 70's, I wore FOUR Smith DA revolvers to the point where the cylinder didn't lock up properly. That can SOMETIMES be fixed by "stretching" the cylinder hand, but it was enough to make me dump all my revolvers, and go to autoloaders and single shots, exclusively. Even "just" dryfire wears all the cylinder alignment parts, the hand, the ejector star, bolt cuts in side of cylinder, and cylinder bolt. The contact surfaces are small, so tiny amounts of wear are critical to the alignment of the chambers with the barrel. |

| Administrator ![]() | Ha, RIGHT!!! I've yet to come close to wearing out my 686 Smith. I'd like to see you try to wear out a Ruger revolver of ANY MODEL!!! Sounds to me like you got a little happy on your reloading. Maybe loaded a double .223 charge for a .357 mag. or something. Heavy handloads will wear out a Smith revover in time. Four in one year,HMMM...

| I could do so in 90 days, without a doubt. It's just a question of dryfiring a lot. I've worn out .22's, and 38's that never saw a hot load. Ruger is no different. The wear surfaces are still small, and super critical to cylinder alignment. |

| I'm with Jesse on this one. Back in the 70's, when SW686 was our standard issue and carry revolver, and I was also an instructor, I shot NO LESS than 200 rounds a week for almost two years....and NOT .38SPL ammo. We had our weapons speced at a contract, and reknowned, gunsmith every month. If there was ever any wear on mine he sure as h e l l never mentioned it. When we traded them in for the 1911 my 686 was still shooting as well as it ever did. So, ohyeah's theory....in one word...stinks.

| Senior Member | I have seen a rental at the range that was in a malfunctioning state due to a policy of NON Maintenance, cleaning etc... as for wearing 3 of them out... HMMM almost anything will break if it is abused or used beyond normal functioning. If your wore three of them out I would say you are doing something in excess of manufacturer recomendations or are shooting more than the average firearm is intended to be shot.
