| Super Moderator ![]() | Browning Hi Power vs Beretta/Taurus Full Size vs other hi-cap 9mms I'm considering a 9mm pistol for primarily target use, since I'm not a fan of 9mm's mild power. Wondered what the best deal was on hi-cap (ie 15+, up to 30rd for some) full size 9mm pistols. Am NOT considering Ruger, Glock, or S&W pistols. Arcus Hi-Powers are $220 dealer cost at AIM. I could probably snag a Beretta/Taurus for $300ish used. I dunno about others. I wondered if Beretta might be a better choice due to US mil interchangeability if SHTF. But Arcus Hi-Powers are well priced and well rated. Any Hi-Power fans or any reasons for one over the other? Or pistols I forgot? Already remembered the CZs.

| Super Moderator ![]() | I pee on all pistols made by Hi-Point. Carbines are Ok, but I pee on all such pistols. Saw some well priced Taurus and HP mags today online...

| The Browning Hi-Poyer is an excellent gun, as are both the Beretta and Taurus 92's. You can't go wrong with any of them.

| Browning Hi Powers are generally well thought of, as are Berettas...I'm not a fan of Tauri (Tauruses). 30 round mags are commonly available for the Browning |

| I would say the Browning Hi Power, probably because that was my issue sidearm and I have little experience with the 92. The Hi Power has great pointability, it seems to fir most hands well. I also like the locking lug feature. Perhaps the only downside is if you aren't restricted to 10 rnd mags then the Hi Power only holds 13 in the mag, I don't recommend putting a round in the chamber as well. Also, do you want double or single action? The Hi Power is single action, so it can be carried safely.

| As you are well aware of, I like the Taurus handguns. The warranty is the best in the buisness. I have never had any trouble with any of mine, either. You can carry cocked-and-locked or hammer down on a live round. I have the 92 and 100 seires pistols and have never had a problem with them. They are plenty accurate and cost 1/2 what a Beretta does. The Browning is a good gun, too. Kinda costly these days, but worth the money. I despise Berettas, though. Bought one back in '91 and had all kinds of trouble with it. Sent it back twice and was told it was my fault. The slide cracked behind the extractor groove after shooting 200 rounds of Winchester 115-grain FMJ ammo through it. They told me I was using the wrong ammo and I had to pay to have the slide replaced. Got it back and the same thing happened again, only I was using Federal 124-grain FMJ ammo. They said the same thing, so I had it fixed and sold the stupid thing. Bought the PT92 and never looked back....

| Super Moderator ![]() | Oh and Pete, you can get hi-capacity mags for the hi-power out the wazoo. Like up to 30rd. In fact, that's an attractive feature of the Hi-Power.

| The BHP is a great gun. Long service record. I do not think the Beretta will have the same service record. Have you looked at the CZ-75B? Not much $$ but a great gun. |

| Administrator ![]() | I own a Taurus P-92 pre decocker. I had it fitted with a Federal Arms Barrel. It shoots very well. Beretta Hi-Caps will not fit a Taurus. The mag notch is not large enough, it can be modified. A Browning Hi-power is a fine pistol. Get your factory mags now (FN), they are becoming scarce. KRD Mags (CDNN) are good also.

| The CZ 75/85 series are the best pistols in this class. I could amplify, but I suggest that you just CZech out my internet home: http://pub105.ezboard.com/bczechpistols82792

| To be fair, I would have recommended the Hi-Power as well, but price seemed to be an issue.
