Springfield XDM or Glock 4th gen

I have a Taurus PT140 that I've had nothing but problems with and will be selling. I went into the shop to check out some guns and ended up very interested in a Springfield XDM, even though its a bit more expensive than I was wanting to spend ($629). I've shot my friends Glock 22 4th gen a few times and really liked it and trust it without a doubt. Basically for me at this point is I want a gun that I can be confidant in, not a piece of crap like my PT140. I'm now willing to spend a few houndred extra to know I have a good gun I can trust. It will be a few months before I can afford anything so I'm looking for suggestions for guns to look at under other than the Glock and XDM under $650 for a person with smaller hands. Thanks.

I too do not have large hands so I find this pistol to be extremely comfortable in the hand. The accuracy and reliability is 1st rate as well. Many times when a number of us are at the range shooting each others handguns a number of people who have spent considerably more on their firearms will comment to me that they wish they had known about CZ before they bought theirs. I get similar responses about the CZ75 BD also. The Phantom is polymer framed and a little lighter.

CZ-USA -> CZ 75 SP-01 PHANTOM

I have never had a Glock or a CZ. I tried a Glock once at the gunshop and didn't like the feel or the look. I hear they are very dependable. I do have a XDM 9 and a XD 9mm subcompact. Have shot probably close to 1k rounds through the subcompact and 3-4 hundred through the XDM. Have not had a single failure of any kind and they are both still very accurate. Sounds like you're on the right track with your choices

I never have and never will be a Glock fan! I don't like the way they feel, or look, and I especially don't trust their un-"safe-action" trigger. At least the Springer XD has a grip safety to go along with their un-"safe-action" trigger. Other than that, there's not a whole lot of difference.

The gun you are looking for is a person/home protection arm. Can't quite understand why folks price shop something that can save your skin. Needless to say, I am an XDM fan, but in any event....looking to go down in the amount you want to spend reminds me of the famous line in Planes, Trains, and Automobiles................"YOU'RE GOING THE WRONG WAY !"

The only OTHER hand gun I would recommend in that price range would be a used, but in VERY GOOD CONDITION, S&W revolver or Colt 1911.

Cool

I'm a Glockaholic, for 11 yrs the G23 has been my carry weapon and I trust it with my life any day, also it's easy to maintain and there are tons of aftermarket parts and support for them.

On the other hand, I've never heard anything bad about the XD, in fact their design is a copy from the glock design with some small differences, not sure about the aftermarket support, maybe some other member can chip into that dept.

Whatever you choose, you should be fine between those 2, just get what feels good when you handle then at the store and if possible try to test fire them before to get a hang of how they will work for you.

For a long time, I wanted a HK USP until I test fired it, couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with it at 10yds , the guy who let me test it did 2"-3" groups at 25 yrds constantly

The only gun I fire better than my Glock is the P229, I was amazed at how it handled the .40 and my accuracy went up from the first rnd, but very pricey so it will have to wait for a while.

Take your time and get what's right for you.......

Guys, if I have read the OP's post correctly he is looking for recommendations for pistols under $650.00 other than the Glock and the XDM.

I wonder how many people actually read the post close enough to notice . Seems to me most of em think its a " should i get an Xd or a Glock?"

Suggestions on ALTERNATIVES people! Like i said earlier can't go wrong with a S&W M&P compact.

To the OP are you looking to replace the PT140 with another .40S&W? I ask because both the XDm and Glock 22 are offered in other chamberings other then .40S&W.

I shouldn't assume you are, but I am because you probably have plenty of ammo for a .40S&W.

I'd look into Smith and Wesson. I see they have a SD40 for about $499 and in a local shop not big bix store should be able to get that for $450 or a little less. Their M&P lineup is a little more expensive at about $565 and you could probably get that in store for $500 or so.

The CZ P06 is another option al be it right at the top of your budget. But you might be able to find it in a shop for under their aksing price of $648. They also have the CZ P-07 for about $487

I'd also take a look into SIG Saur. The P250 is one I'd take a look into. P226 X-Five.

Look at the name/title of this post.

Ok I see where your coming and going with this. However you shouldn't just go by the title of the thread. Because as you will read you would have seen that the person is looking for other options other then the XDm and Glock. Meaning they have already seen the XDm's and Glock's their interested in and want to look into other brands and compare to see who will come out on top for thier choice to purchase down the road when they have the funds.

Again people please read the ENTIRE post before you reply. If your not willing to read the post then why are you on the forum to begin with. Read and then your reply's will be helpful.

Seems maybe the op didn't know what he wanted when he posted. :P. I really don't see why anyone would look past the XDm. Unless they wanted a Sig.

Why not look past the XDm? I mean yes the XDm is a great gun. I love my XDm9. However it isn't the end all best gun in the world. No gun is and no gun will ever be the "BEST" gun in the world. So having other options to go with is always a good idea.

Well thanks for all the suggestions. To answer a few questions I am indeed looking to replace my PT140 with another .40 s&w. Sorry about the confusion regarding the purpose of my post, as reading back I can see how the title can be misleading. Basically the Glock and XDM are the two guns on my list thus far and I'm looking for others to check out as well. I'm not in a huge hurry to buy a new firearm as my funds are extremely limited, so I'll have ample time to look around before I make a decision.
