Im thinking of buying my wife her first hadgun for xmas. Not only do I have to find one she likes, but I would also like to have it finished. Ive seen the pink, and a few other colors. I would like to go above and beyond that though. I actually saw a picture online of a guy with two Louis Vuitton finished glocks. I know it would be pricey, but that would be the gift to end all gifts. Anybody know where I might be able to get something like that done, and maybe how much it would cost?
Some popular guns have a variety of aftermarket stocks available. If you don't want to go the full one-of-a-kind custom expense, you might check the usual catalog places to see what's out there. I've seen quite a few custom slabs for 1911s, for example, and the Ruger Mk series has a lot of choices, too. Send a PM to Steve Bowers on this board to see if he can help you out.

I sure will.
Do companies make them to order or would I have to get a premade design?
Glocks are generally very easy to customize. You can use many different applications to get the effect you desire. Prices range from $50 to well over $200 dollars depending on which part or parts of the gun you would like to customize.
No if this you wife's first firearm and she plans to carry in her purse, I would recomend a enclosed hammer revolver. The design is very easy to opperate under stress. Now the best choice I believe is that oyu choose a factory pink firearm. Most likey she may want to upgrade one day or may not like the firearm. It is MUCH easier to sell or trade a factory gun.

Don't mean to rain on your parade, but chossing a handgun is a really personal thing, like buying her a pair of shoes. If you are not real sure about size & style, could spend good money for something she will not like, maybe not enjoy shooting.
Would she be suspicious if you invited her to go with you to shop for a gun for you? If not, go to as many gun stores & handle as many firearms as possible. but ask her to hold them also & ask her what she thinks about them. Best yet, would be if you have several of your own that she could shoot or there is a range near you that rents handguns. Then she could actually shoot them.
Would be nice if she'd select one with removable grips & be easily customized for her.
Might I suggest a titanium nitride finish with pearl stocks? It won't look out of place in her jewelry box.
Seriously, the best present in a firearm is the one she wants.

All great suggestions. Ive pretty much already learned that I need to let her pick out what she wants, same way im going to suggest to her what I want. I dont see getting her to try out a few things as we both enjoy going to the range. She alredy told me what she wants(a gun) for xmas so its not going to be a suprise, but I wanted to throw a little extra into it.
I think I like the idea of just getting a replacement grip...and maybe a slide at the most. I think its a better investment for her first weapon.
That titanuim finish is really nice, but I might have to pass it up this time around. I cant seem to find any info on the price, and I think that would be more suited for her second gun. At least that way she will be more familiar with her preferences and pick something that she will really enjoy and I dont have to worry about selling or trading later.
I agree, get her something but talk it over with her.
Let her make the choices but foot the bill of course as a gift to her. Picking a make model and then lookign over what finishes are out there for her choice.
Durakote and some other finishes make stencil kits with different designs. Even things like pink flage, or even digital pink flage. Not exactly Louis Vuitton, but it's fancy!
Personalizing a pistol with grips is the least expensive, but I think that the most important thing is being able to easily reverse it. One draw back to making a lot of changes, is if/when you go to sell or trade it, the prospective buyer may want to discount the price because he doesn't like the mods. Like me, you probably never buy a firearm with the intent of selling it, but you never know. I've seen a lot of postings for what would have been a nice pistol, but for the crazy (my opinion) mods they'd made to it which actually devalued it, IMHO. If they find a buyer with the same tastes, they might come out okay.
I put a couple of the Sarge`s grips on a P238 equinox (black and white ebony with the tactical stipple) and they are beautiful.
Wicked grips also make some awesome stocks (as does Esmeralda but she doesn`t make 238 grips) also if they have them in stock--check out both sites if you like and wind up with a compatable gun.
Cheers:

I bought a 1980 Marlin 60 at a pawn shop for $50, and it was a bit rough...so I've been tweaking it slowly for the wifey.
The finish was stripped off the receiverm the barrel was rusty & pitted, and it was in generally poor condition...
so I did the mechanicals first, polished everything internally, and ordered a DIP trigger for it...
then I snagged one of the First-Run Boyd's Natural Thumbhole stocks for it...and stained it pink...
And then...of course, since the rifle has a pink stock & T/G...well...Pink Duracoat or Ceracoat for the barrel & receiver is next.
So you can easily, and inexpensively, take an old Marlin and turn it into something your wifey is VERY proud to take to the range!
And she gets to tell her girlfriends that YOU, her Dear Hubby, made it Just For Her!
Those kinda points rate pretty high in the Female World
