Heck no! I love wheel guns. Each person has a differn't taste, if you want new and plastic go for it, if you want old and case cold hardened, go for it. In the proper hands they are both deadly.

I fear the old salt carrying the wheel gun.....you know he's still carrying it because he knows it tactical value. Heck no it's not obsolete.

Ya know? I would have voted differntly but just this past Friday i had my first opportunity to launch a few out of a Taurus Raging Bull chambered in 454 Casull - i must say - - YEEEOWW! I gotta have oneanthem! The owner of said wheel gun and I swapped weapons - I got trigger time on his 454 and he got to play with the Grizzly and we were both impressed. I am a 1911 freak but I still won't rule out or talk bad about a wheel gun, specially since I got to play with that Taurus. I have gotten to launch a few out of a new Smith 500 a couple of months ago but the 454 seemed to have more gonads!? Revolerators ain't ready to be put to bed yet I don't think!

Just look at the firearm market. Colt, Smith&Wesson, Ruger and Taurus are selling all they can make, and always bringing out new models. Obsolete? Not by a long shot.

Revolvers in there present form are not that much diffrent than they were over 100 years ago when they were the only handgun avalible. It is a time tested design. No doubt pistols have the capacity to fire more rounds before having to reload. However revolvers are 1) More reliable; 2) Have the capacity to fire a much larger caliber projectile; 3) So much easer to maintaine; 4) Simple to use. They tend not to "look cool" fancy polimer grips, or next generation fiber fraims, but they have it where it counts. They also tend to be much more balenced and easer for a new shooter to use or an experianced shooter to use under a stress situation. Pistols; wether it is the magazine or a dirty slide, have so many more components that can fail causing a doubble feed, or some other malfunction. You hardly ever see an alaby shot for a revolver.

I don't think all the deer that are taken each year with revolvers would say the wheel gun is obsolete.

Excellent point, Trapfreak. From a ballistics perspective, animals larger than varmints really do need something with a magnum revolver level of power. Auto pistols in those rounds or others of similar power can be cool, but are often expensive, oversized, picky, slow, or unreliable. (No offense intended at all to proud owners of the DE or Grizzly, particularly Klaus and Max7.62.) I am partly biased by the fact that PA won't allow semi-autos for hunting, only manually operated pistols and rifles (shotguns can be semi but are limited to 2+1 capacity) I do think there is still room to advance the revolver design though. I would love to see a double action revolver with the barrel firing from the bottom cylinder, like the Mateba, but manually operated. I would also like to see a break open revolver rifle that shields the forward hand from the cylinder blast.

You can get larger calibers in revolvers without looking like a total jackass (Desert Eagle).
