Taurus RAGING BULL, .454 CASULL or 500 S&W Magnum

I have been looking at these two hand cannons and was curious as to which is concidered to be the better of the two.

Thanks,

well my guess is your planning to hunt bear? I voted for the taurus because you will get a better gun for the value and you will not be supporting a company that still honors the agreement the previous owners made with Klinton to avoid the lawsuits. S&W bailed on all the other manufacturers by conceeding to Klinton.

Otherwise if you need something bigger go for the BFR (Not what you think) Klaus can tell you all about them but you can even get them chambered in 45-70 if you really need the power.

in a revolver the 45-70 doesnt get the power out as well as the 454 or the 500s&w. either choice will kill just about anything that walks, and the 454 is cheaper to shoot so i vote 454.

Looks Like I will be going with the Raging Bull in .454

I will be using this pistol for hunting everything from bear to deer to Russian Boar, and any big game that I might get a chance to hunt. I just heard of a guy taking a bison with the raging bull, that would definately be the hunt of a life time. Thanks to all for your insight on these two hand cannons.

The Taurus website lists their .500 series Raging Bull as "discontinued" in all models. I don't know how many are still in the pipeline and available.

As far as reloading cost goes, the brass is the same, the lead costs more, and it takes about 1/3 more powder. But, the bullets are heavier in the .500 and move at about the same speed. So, you're tossing a lot more energy downrange. For hunting, I'd go with the .500. If I was going to shoot a bear, which I never would if I could avoid it, I would want that bigger, heavier jacketed bullet. I'd rather toss 500 grains at close to 1500 fps than 325 grains at around 1550 fps. Same with anything that could charge me, even if it didn't have claws.

Ive got a ruger super redhawk in .44mag. And my bro in law has a taurus .454. Last time we went to the range he thought the taurus would make me flinch. Didnt at all recoil isnt bad at all. My old mans blackhawk kicks harder. We shot a lot of paper that day and I was very impressed with the Taurus. The double lock on the cylinder impressed me as well. Only problem he has had is keeping a scope on the thing. But he keeps trying to low dough it. With a good quality scope i think you should be able to shoot anything with the raging bull.

have you considered the 460 S&W? its a full blooded bad ass. i dont know if tauras has a revolver cahmbered for the 460 yet but smith does. more expensive than a tauras but a good gun. ammo isnt too bad either. last box i priced was like 22 or 23 bucks for 200gr Hornadys. thats for 20 rds. 454s arent really much less and with the smith you can shoot .460s&w, 454casull, and 45LC.

I have a Raging Bull (5", .454) and love it. The ports really help with recoil, but make it quite a bit louder (always wear good hearing protection).

IMHO, the ability to handle .45 Colt, and the cost of ammo both favor the .454. YMMV

i am buying a used taurus raging bull at 500.00 it is a handsome gun i am not used to handguns. in the military i only used sniper rifles and now have my personal rifle fixed like chuck connors had his. anyway my question is am i getting a good deal at 500.00 or am i paying to much for this big thing. i am luckily paying out my friend and only have invested so far a 100.00 in this pistol. if im not paying to much i might just want to turn around and sell it quickly again i am not a hand gun guy. more a rifle offecinato

What calibre is it? You can buy a new .44 mag Raging Bull for just under $500 new at Buds Guns, depending on barrel lengthy, blued vs ss, etc. The cheapest model of their Raging Bull in a .454 Cas will begin at over $600 and then go up from there.

How much you can sell something for depends on a lot of other factors, many that have nothing to do with the gun. I'm trying to sell 2 rifles now and having little luck because of the depressed economy here, even though they're a good deal.

Sorry but I am very anti-S&W so I vote Taurus over S&W any day.
