Double stack mid size 45s?

I currently pack a Steyr M40, with no complaints, but I've been thinking I could really go for a mid-sized 45 double stack that isn't a 1911 variant. Something about compact 1911s just doesn't fit me, partly their shape.
But I'm not looking for abbreviated capacity either. If it can't hold 10rds I'll choose slim over short and just do a full size 1911.

So I'm basically looking for a 10rd 45 ACP mid size pistol with a 3.5-4" barrel. If it's polymer, it needs to have an internal frame like Steyr, not just moulded rails like FN's recent offerings. Also must have manual safety and either SA or SA/DA, no DAO.

I WAS looking at Beretta Cougar and EAA Witness until I found that they only did 8rd.

BattleRifleG3,
I dont know of any that can hold 10 rounds that arent full sized guns...but I dont know a lot of things...(LOL) But I do know the Beretta Cougar is a fine weapon even if it is 2 rounds short of what you want. Hope this helps...

All three 1911 frames are the same size. Slides are different.. Every double stack the I have held, and I have a big hand doesn't feel right. Maybe I just need the get use to. I have a Glock and really don't care for the grip. I like the 1911 with a mag well that extends the handle.

If the Beretta Cougar has a grip that feels like the 92, I'll have to rule it out. Fired a 92 once and was gravely disappointed with how uncomfortable the grip was. I'll take my Steyr over it any day. Might go for a Steyr M or S9 if I can rustle up the pesos. If I was getting midsize 45 and 8rd was enough, I'd seriously consider the Ruger KP35R. The DDA pistol seemed to fit the bill, though I'd prefer the higher quality EAA Witness or CZ, and a metal frame unless the polymer one had an internal frame. I handled a full size CZ and it was quite comfortable. Might have to consider a DDA if I see one around.

Well so far the compact Taurus Milennium Pro 145BP is the only one that holds a full 10rd. I think I've heard one or two criticisms of it, anyone know any more about it? It's DAO, but I might be able to stand that for a striker firing system, I mean I do have a Steyr M40. The Taurus 145 has a manual safety, a must. What I'd really like to see is its inerts.

Now this would be nice if they offered this version. I edited a Taurus 24-7 pic into a midsize.

Ha, I just inspected both and realize that my assumption that the Taurus 24-7 was a Walther P99 derivative was absolutely wrong. Examining the 24-7 and Millennium Pro showed them to be the same design. Now I know why there's no compact 24-7... It's called the Millennium Pro. I wonder if the mags will interchange. Hmm...

On the good side the sales associate stripped them both for me and I was quite satisfied with the rigidity of their internal construction. Same type of internal metal sub-frame as my beloved Steyr M40.

I'm not 100% convinced Taurus is actually going to follow through. I think they may be pretending to be actually making progress just so the libs will hold their breath.

DOA or DAO? That would suck if it was DOA, I'd demand my money back...
